He didn’t say anything. Instead, he raised his hand to graze his fingertip over her cheek as he pushed away a strand of hair. “Think about it, Varma. You’ll walk away from this all as the perfect girlfriend.”

She let out a growl. “Really? Will I graduate from the perfect girlfriend school of Rana Simha with flying colors if I do everything you say?”

“Precisely!” He took a step back. “And I’m the most decent guy on campus. I haven’t even kissed you even after being kissed by you so many times.”

The guy was having way too much fun taunting her. “Just tell me what I need to do.”

Rana chuckled a victorious one. “You and I will attend a party over the weekend. By then, you’ll need to learn how to be a good girlfriend.”

“And if I don’t?” She couldn’t help but challenge him every time.

“Then you’ll be a girlfriend in training for however long you are at Simha. If you learn your ways to entice me so I kiss you back, you are off the hook. Remember our deal?” He raised an eyebrow as if in challenge.

She narrowed her eyes, lost in thought. He was right, all she had to do was to get him to reciprocate. It was what she had planned the second night they had dinner together, but she quickly gave up when he had called her out on her so-called seduction plans. And after what he did at the lighthouse, getting her to believe he was going to kiss her back and taunting her, she had dropped the idea.

Suppressing her excitement at another attempt at freedom, she smiled coyly. “What time is this party?”

A scoff escaped him. “Now, we’re talking. Let’s spice it up now. I’ve been getting bored of this submissive act of yours.”

“Don’t get too cocky.” She turned away from him and sat back on the chair looking at the screen, her knees on the verge of turning into jelly. His very proximity affected her in so many ways. “Send me the details of the party, and I’ll be there.”

He tsked, making her look at him, confused. “You make a sucky girlfriend, but don’t worry I’m the perfect boyfriend material. I’ll send you the details the way they should be and the night of the party, I’ll come get you. Bring out your best.”

With those words, he walked away, leaving her dumbfounded. What the hell was he getting out of constantly taunting her like that? How could her misery be payback for what happened between their fathers? If he is looking to get back at her, she should be getting back at him too. But she had no idea how.

Lost in thought, she was still staring at the screen when he came by her desk again only moments later. “Let’s go. I need you.”

“What? I have work to do,” she objected, not getting up from her desk.

“This is work too.” His tone was insistent. “Now.”

She huffed as she got up and followed him, grumbling. There were other boxers warming up for that night, but the coaches were yet to arrive. “This is getting beyond annoying.”

He turned abruptly, making her run into him. “You finished your training as a second. I could use one for my practice.”

“But I—”

He didn’t let her finish. He threw a pair of gloves at her. “Put these on.” It was an order.

She dropped the gloves to the floor. “I’m not. I have other things to take care of.”

Rana scanned her face for a long moment. “Are you telling me you are going to give up on an opportunity to punch me? Maybe even in the face?”

What? Did she hear that right?

Suppressing a wicked smile, she picked up the gloves and slipped them on. “Why didn’t you say that sooner?” Even if she had to put up with his antics for however long she had to, she would get some pleasure out of smashing him in the face.

“Thank you, God,” she said under her breath as she stepped into the boxing ring.

He was warming up, and she stared at him in amazement at how quickly and rhythmically he was rolling the quick punches.

Stop gawking at him and do some damage to that pretty face.

“Ready, Varma?” He stepped closer to her, bouncing on his toes. “Show me how much you hate me.”

“I can really punch you?” She held her gloved fists up in battle position. When he nodded, she let out a laugh and said, “Just don’t cry.”

“I’m sure I’ll have tears in my eyes when we are done… from laughing,” he taunted, and that set her off.
