She let out a cry as she gathered her strength, threw a punch, and was so ready to rejoice, but it was a miss. He moved so quickly that every time she tried to get him, she was nowhere near touching him.

“What’s wrong, Varma? Where’s the punch? I feel nothing.” He huffed as he moved around the ring with her frantically trying to hit him in the face.

His cocky smile was all the more annoying, and the way his eyes were trained on her made her feel jittery inside.

“C’mon, sweetness, I like the way you smell, get closer and take a shot.” He chuckled, but she was too focused on getting to him.

A few minutes into it, she realized he was too fast for her to get to him, and the fact that she had to jump to reach his face, she decided to try a different part of his body, determined to hurt him somehow. She faked a punch to his face and then halfway switched to aim for his chest and to her utter surprise, she missed it again.

“Stop moving so fast.” She puffed out a breath.

“Namrata, keep going. You got this,” a voice called out from the side, and she noticed they had an audience. The coaches and the other players were gathered, and the head coach was the one cheering her.

“Let’s dance, Varma.” He winked and added, “Now, later at the party, and then the masquerade party. I’ll turn you into a hot commodity.”

That irked her, she charged at him, and with both fists, she tried to hit him and, as if the universe had some change of heart, she got a hit on the side of his torso. The joy of getting to him zapped through her, and immediately, she felt a sharp pain run through her hand.

She let out a low grunt, wiggling her hand to shake away the pain. How the heck was he so strong and yet so light on his feet? And what she had failed to realize about him was how focused he was on her and her every move, even as he taunted and teased her.

“Namrata, get him,” the coach cheered, and she smiled looking up at him.

“I’m going to get you, Simha. You’ll beg me to stop.” She fired at him, and that pumped up her energy levels.

“Stop flirting with me. I’m shy,” he fired back, laughing.

She was suddenly enjoying herself. “Worried I’ll distract you like I did the first time you knew who I was?”

He stayed silent, but his eyes didn’t waiver.

She was starting to have fun, and although it was against rules, she caught him off guard by throwing an arm around his neck, held on to him, and went for the kill. Her glove came in contact with his face and boom, she landed the punch.

“That’s a foul.” Rana was angry.

The coach shook his head. “She got you. You had lost your focus.”

“Yes!” She celebrated, her eyes on him.

“Namrata,” the coach called out as she was leaving the ring. “I need you to work with Rana for the warm-up going forward.”

Her jaw dropped. She quickly recovered and nodded, unable to object and wanted to kick herself for agreeing to going into the ring with him in the first place.

“I need to learn how to punch that arrogant smile off his face,” she grumbled going back to her desk.

First a fangirl, then a fake girlfriend, a dance partner, and now officially his boxing assistant. How wonderful! Can it get any worse?

Chapter 16

“Nami!” It was Ramya calling out from the lower level of the house. It was too early in the morning on a Saturday for her to wake up.

“Stop, Ramya,” she mumbled, hiding her face into the pillow, shutting out the excited voices in their housing unit. What in the world were the two girls so excited about?

Excited footsteps combined with squeals got louder, and the next thing she knew, her door was opened loudly, and the two girls barged in. “Nami, look.”

“Go away, you two. I’m sleepy.” She had been sleeping like a log the past few days, especially after she started training in the boxing ring. Her muscles were sore, but the half punches she got on him were well worth it. She was yet to figure out how a guy with so much focus could escape punches even when blindfolded and yet caught hers?

“Nami, look at this package and the invitation,” Ramya said, her voice squeaky like it gets when she is super excited.

“Is this for the party tonight?” Vasavi seemed to be in disbelief.
