“Yes, you did. You should have gone to the campus security first.”

She looked up at the woman who looked royally pissed. “I did, Ma’am, and they would not believe I was the one to damage the car.”

Neelima Raj shook her head. “Why didn’t you turn yourself in sooner?”

She bit her lip. “I wasn’t proud of what I did, but I did not regret it and still don’t. The guy hurt my friend for a mere scratch on his car.”

The woman looked at Nami for a long moment. “Why didn’t you report him for what he did?”

Nami let out a breath. “Although what Varun did with Vasavi was wrong, he didn’t deserve to be expelled. I know how hard it was for me to come to Simha, and I didn’t want him to get into trouble.”

“Ms. Varma, do you realize what situation you put yourself in now? By confessing everything?”

She nodded. “Yes, Ma’am. I cannot have another student, especially a Simha-reigning boxing champion be expelled because of me.”

The dean slowly turned to look at the guy sitting across her desk at her home office. Rana was asked to come to the dean’s private quarters from the security office where he was detained for investigation for the conversation Nami forced. “Mr. Simha, if Ms. Varma is claiming responsibility, why did you turn yourself in on a false allegation?”

He leaned forward. “Ma’am, I have no idea why she is taking this on her. I was the one who damaged the car. I have evidence.”

“Ma’am, don’t listen to him.” Nami was taken aback as she looked at him. “Rana, don’t do this.”

Rana ignored her completely. “Ma’am, Varun and I had a fallout at a party, and I decided to trash his car. I don’t know why Namrata would go to this extent for her roommate, who at the time she knew only for a couple of weeks.”

“What do you say to that, Ms. Varma?” The dean asked and Nami could not believe what Rana was doing.

“I mean, Vasavi is my roommate, and she was extremely welcoming and helpful as I figured out my way around Simha. And it doesn’t matter how long I’ve known her, when someone is treated that way, I’m not going to sit around and pretend like it’s not my problem.”

Rana tsked, shaking his head. “Neela Ma’am, I haven’t met anyone who would risk their admission at Simha and pull a stunt like this for a roommate they had just met. This… this good heart is what is wanting her to take on the blame for me. Don’t let an innocent be punished.”

“Rana, stop,” Nami snapped, and Neelima Raj glared at her.

“Ms. Varma, please watch your tone with your fellow students.” It was a warning.

“Sorry.” She lowered her voice and looked at the dean. “The watch that he submitted as evidence belongs to my father.”

“That is not true.” Rana placed the watch on the table and added, “Look at the initials on the back. SS. Samraat Simha and not DV for Dhanush Varma.”

Nami was in a frenzy at that point. “That’s true, but our fathers are friends, and it was gifted to my dad, and he gave it to me, and I gave—” She lost her voice just before she spilled the beans that she had gifted it to Rana.

“And?” The dean looked mad, so mad Nami was sure they would both get expelled from Simha.

“Ma’am, I’m the one to blame,” she declared, glaring at Rana.

There was silence for a moment before Neelima Raj leaned forward. “Get. Out. Of. My. Office. Both of you.”

Nami knew not to push further and scrambled out of her chair. Rana followed suit and just as they reached the door, the dean called out to her. Rana stepped out, leaving Nami alone with the dean.

She turned to find Neelima Raj with a small smile on her face. “Ms. Varma, you are a braveheart, and Simha welcomes the spirit. Would you consider transferring to Simha?”

“Oh my God, yes.” She let out a squeal. “Can I hug you, Neela Ma’am.”

“That is not necessary. See you on campus, Ms. Varma.”

“Thank you!” She rushed out of the office and found Rana waiting outside.

She let out a squeal of joy before going down the small flight of stairs that led to the backyard. He stepped forward, sweeping her off the last step and into his arms. He planted a hard kiss on her lips.

Nami wiggled herself out of his arms and pulled back to look at him. She reached out to swipe her palm against his cheek. “What were you thinking, turning yourself in?”
