I kissed her hard as we moved together. No more words necessary as we came together. She breathed my name and I moaned hers.

“Tell me,” I panted, while she was still on top of me. “Was that my influence, or John’s?”

She laughed and smacked me playfully. She kissed my nose, then slid off me and stood up.

“That, love, is not an answer,” I told her.

“It’s not, it is?”

She still didn’t answer as we cleaned up and I decided not to ask again. I knew the answer. I hoped the answer. If it gave her some amusement not to tell me, then power to her.

She settled back against me, and we put the movie on. I know I wasn’t exactly a John fanboy, but even I thought it was a bit of an odd movie.

“Oh, fuck!” I muttered halfway through. “Perfect John’s the bad guy!”

Piper batted me quiet and just snuggled in closer.

“What did you think?” I asked when it was done and stretched out. She didn’t say anything. “Piper?”

“I’m not convinced that was worth my first blow job…” she said quietly.

I snorted. “Well, if it makes you feel any better, love, no one was going to think it was your first time.”

She looked at me with her mouth open and my dick was entertaining ideas of her giving it another shot. “I’m not sure that’s a compliment, Lombardi.”

“No, me either.”

After a moment of looking at each other, we broke into laughter.

With each time we spent together, I was sure that you couldn’t really call us just friends. I wasn’t even so sure it was just casual. There was something deeper in our connection but it couldn’t last, and I was only making it worse by dragging it out. But I couldn’t help it. She was my friend, and I was hers. That part of us could continue and we could deal with exactly how when the time came.

Until then, we didn’t need to knowwhatwe were because it was fucking perfect.

Piper refused to stay the night. Mum wouldn’t have cared if she’d seen Piper in the morning, but I knew Piper thought that was crossing a line. Besides, she wanted to be up early enough to shower before meeting Hadley and Celeste atLacey’s.

I’d snuck her out of my place and into hers at something like four and she’d kissed me like leaving me was the last thing she wanted to do. I fucking felt that.

So, I was heading to the skatepark with the boys because Steve had been bugging Rio to get me to hang out with them. He had a point. I hadn’t seen them as often lately. And that was on me. So, what better time to hang out with them than when Piper was having girl time? It wasn’t like they wanted a cock hanging out with the hens even if I wanted to sit through Rom-Com talk or whatever else girls talked about it.

“And then,” Steve laughed. “Then, Jake fell off the pool table.”

I shook my head. “Well, boys. Does this teach us anything?”

“Follow the old adage,” Jake said.

I blinked. “Adage?”

“‘Beer before grass, you’ll be on your arse. Grass before beer, you’re in the all clear’,” Steve and Jake recited together.

I looked at Rio. “And you let these idiots out by themselves?”

He shrugged as he lit a smoke. “You’re the one who’s reneging on chaperone duty.”

I scoffed, but Rio’s attention was across the street.

“Oi, oi,” he said. “It’s your missus.”
