“Fuck off,” I said, but I laughed.

Then I turned around and all my humour or excitement at seeing her faded when I saw who she was with.

Fucking Mason Carter.

So much for fucking girls’ day.

Piper waved at me and I managed a terse nod for her. I wasn’t a total heathen.

Rio dug his elbow in my side as he chuckled, “Carter got a secret, or did she lie to you?”

“You watch what you say about her, arsehole.”

But his words echoed around my head.

Had she lied to me?

Had she not even had the fucking decency to tell me she was meeting up with him?

Did she think I couldn’t handle it?

“Fuck off,” I snapped at Rio, then turned and walked away.

“Fuck,” I heard Rio mutter. “Lombardi!” he huffed and hurried after me.

“Don’t even start,” I snapped.

“Lombardi.” His hand touched my arm and I ripped it away from him.

“I am warning you, Salazar.”

“Don’t be a fucking prat.”

“You fucking started it.”

“I’m sure it’s a coincidence.”

I huffed at him a lit a new smoke. “Yeah? Or does she just know how well I’ll deal with it?”

“Oh, is this you dealing?” he asked sarcastically.

“Didn’t I tell you to fuck off already?”

“Mate, I get we’re angry teenagers. It’s like our thing. But Barlow is fucking with your head man.”

“I told you to watch what you said about her,” I snarled as my fist flew towards his face.

I pulled it up short and we were both breathing hard. Rio held his hands up.

“I didn’t mean it like that,” he said slowly, looking to Jake and Steve, who were keeping out of it until it passed. “I just meant you need to sort your shit over her. Love her. Hate her. I don’t fucking care. But saddle up and let her go, or keep her.”

We heard Piper yell behind us, “Roman!”

I looked at her pointedly, then looked away. I couldn’t deal with her now.

“You and your lady had a falling out, Lombardi?” Rio teased and I glared at him.

Fucker was cruising for a serious bruising.
