ChapterEight

THALIA

I listen to my sister as she rants about Greg and how he’s putting his nose where it’s not wanted: her business. I stifle a laugh as she waves her arms around dramatically.

“My relationship with Bishop is nothing to do with Greg. Yes, Greg has worked for our family a long time but what does my sex life have to do with him? Nothing. That’s what,” she fumes, answering her own question.

I release the chuckle I was holding, and she glares at me, making me stop. “Aria, he’s just looking out for you. He has been the same with Theo, so don’t think he’s singling you out. He will have his say, get his point across and then he will leave it at that.”

“But what if Bishop changes his mind because of Greg’s interfering?” she whines, and I almost think she’s going to stomp her foot.

I shake my head. “Bishop won’t. Anyone with eyes can tell he is head over heels for you.”

“He’s already worried about the possibility of losing his job if daddy finds out, now Greg is going to make it worse. He...” she trails off when a knock at the door sounds. She rushes over, pulling it open, no doubt expecting Bishop.

“Oh, it’s you,” she grumbles, moving aside to reveal Theo. My breath hitches at how perfect he is. His muscles strain against his white shirt and he wears grey sweats. I bite back a groan. He is a God. All man. All mine.

He saunters inside, flashing Aria a smile. “I saw your guard downstairs in the parking lot. He and Greg looked like they were having an... in depth conversation.”

“Fucking Greg,” Aria huffs, before spinning and making her way to the room she is currently staying in.

“Fucking Greg indeed.” Theo chuckles, pushing the door closed. He faces me, a smile on his face. “Piccola,” he murmurs as he closes the distance between us. Bending at the waist, he cups my face, pressing his lips to mine. “I love you.”

My pulse kicks up, stomach dips. I will never get tired of hearing those words from his mouth. “I love you too,” I whisper.

He pulls back, taking a seat beside me on the couch. Clearing his throat, he speaks. “How are you feeling? How’s your knee?”

I roll my eyes but smile. I love how worried he is about me. “Fine. I told you what the doctor said earlier and apart from that there are no other changes.”

He nods, then kisses my forehead. “I have good news for you.”

“Yeah?” I smile.

“Mel came to the farm earlier.” My face blanches, eyes widen. If that’s what he thinks is good news, then I would hate to hear what he thinks is bad news. He takes my hand, giving it a squeeze. “I asked her to.”

My eyes narrow. “Why? How can you stand to have her anywhere near you?” My voice trembles as I remember when he told me about the assault.

He sits back against the couch and runs a hand through his dark hair. “I can’t. But I had to. I showed her the video I have of her in the trailer. Told her I know it was her that drugged your horses. Told her we know that she is responsible for your accident.” I gasp. Theo grabs my hand before continuing. “She denied it, of course, but what I haven’t told you is that not only do I have the footage, but a couple acquaintances of mine got in touch with me.” My heart pounds as I wonder where he is going with this. “She was asking around, wanting to know where she could get ACP. They thought it was odd that mywifewould ask them and not just come to me.”

I blink at him, taking it all in. She asked people where she could get the drug that killed Zeus? Tears prick my eyes just thinking about him. I swallow. “Go on,” I say, knowing there’s more. I want him to tell me everything.

He sighs. “She won’t bother you or us anymore. I think she will go back to England. I told her if she doesn’t, I’ll go to the police. Mel won’t risk that. Not only because of her reputation but her father’s. My guess is she’ll be on the next flight back to London.”

I’m quiet for a long beat trying to take it all in. Mel is leaving Wellington. We can finally be together? I frown, remembering something. “What’s going to happen with the farm? Your horses?”

Sadness flashes in his eyes before he covers it, and he lets out a ragged breath. “I’ll have to sell Rhodes Farm. As for the horses, I’ll get to keep a couple of them. My father is going to invest in one and I have another investor for Beau,” he says. His tone is even but I don’t miss the hint of sorrow. I nod, trying to process everything he’s saying. Beau is his best horse, his Olympic horse, I know how much he means to Theo. It’s good he will get to keep him but that doesn’t stop the guilt hitting me in the stomach. This is all my fault. He’s losing everything else because of me.

“This is all my fault. I should have stayed away from you.” My lip wobbles as I try to stop myself from crying. It’s no use though, the tears fall freely.

He pulls me gently into his arms so I’m straddling him, all the while being careful not to knock my knee. Gripping my chin, he lifts my face to his. “Don’t ever say that again. Whether you stayed away or not, I wouldn’t have. You were mine from the moment I saw you. Yes, it seems like I’m losing a lot. But look what I’ve gained. You.Youare worth losing it all. You are everything. I wouldn’t change a thing about us. Nothing. I would do it over and over if it means you’re mine.” I search his face for any hint that he’s lying but all I see is the truth. Love. Adoration.

I smash my lips to his, needing to feel him. When I open my mouth, his tongue snakes inside, tangling with mine.

Home.

It’s the only thought in my head. He is home for me.

He groans as we deepen the kiss, and I feel his dick harden beneath me. I grind against him, wanting friction. Wantingeverythinghe has to give.
