MYKA

It’s been two days since our meetup at the recording studio. Yesterday, I binged on the new album and like most of the songs. There are a few that just don’t vibe with me, but other than that, I have plans to make this a successful release and kick off a great tour. “Good morning, Amber,” I sing-song when I walk into my office.

“Boss lady, why are you cheerful this morning? Did you and Cornelius have a good night?” My assistant queries while wiggling her brows as she follows me in.

I shuffle through my bag removing my items and place them neatly on my desk. “Um, no. He stayed at his place seeing he had rehearsal this morning.”

“Oh, that explains why you are immensely happy,” she chuckles.

“Well, I did get a great amount of sleep, I’m sure that contributes to my demeanor. Did you get the stuff together as I asked?”

“Yes. Here are the tour dates for Osiris, a list of available venues for a presser tomorrow, a few local charities for volunteering, and a gymnasium that can be used after hours for an open rehearsal for a few select fans.”

“Wow, this is great, Amber. You pulled all of this together rather quickly. I take it you and John didn’t have date night as planned.”

“No, he ghosted me. I think I’m going to stop looking for love and allow it to find me. These guys are so damn fake and superficial.”

Amber Morales, my assistant for the past two years, and a hopeless romantic. To hear her speak of giving up on dating is serious. I raise my gaze to her and use my hand to encourage her to take a seat.

“Amber, you’re only twenty-three. There is no need to find the perfect relationship right now.

“Oh, yes there is. I want to be married by twenty-six and have my first child by twenty-seven or eight, and second one by thirty.”

“Wow, you really have your life planned to the second, don’t you?” I ask, making notes on the papers she gave me.

“Not, really. But that is ideal for me in order to travel with my husband when I reach my fifties.”

“I’m sure your one is out there, just be patient. Even the best laid plans fail. You have to let nature take its course.”

She sighs heavily. “Maybe. I just want to have a little of what you have with your man.”

I think about how things have been souring with me and Cornelius for the past six months. “Sometimes things aren’t always what they appear, Amber. But anyway, let’s call the London and the Edition to see who has tomorrow at one p.m. available with the junket starting at two. Make sure to let me know ASAP. Also, we will need sound, food, and drinks. Once we get that booked, then send an email to every entertainment contact we have and invite them. Also ask them to spread the news. We are revamping the image of one Simon Ashton and doing some things ahead of the release of their new album, Dead End.” My skin heats when I think of how sinfully seductive he sung that song two days ago.

“Myka, are you okay? Your cheeks are red. You’re not coming down with anything, are you?” She backs away from my desk and puts her hand over her nose and mouth.

“No, I just got hot for a second, but I’m sure it’s because I didn’t have my juice this morning.”

“Could be. Meanwhile, I’ll place an order and ask them to add an immunity shot, and it should be here in ten minutes.” She taps a few buttons on her phone, sending in the breakfast order we usually get. “And I’ll get started on these tasks. I’ll email you the itinerary once it is set, for your approval.”

“Thanks, that’ll be great. Now, I need to call Lenny and give him an update on all the events. Has Carter or his associates called?”

“Um, not yet, but I am sure he will after this email goes out.”

“Yeah, me too. If he does, or Tiffany, tell them, there will be some large expenses on my company card over the next few weeks and I’ll need my purchase limit increased.”

“Isn’t the label paying for this?”

“Yes, and no. They are covering the tour, studio, album release, pop-up show, etcetera… but the hotel we select is coming out of my expenses. Also, the food, and pretty much anything we set up. Those charges can add up quickly and I want to make sure there will be no issue.”

“Yeah, we don’t want an issue like last year.”

“Oh, don’t remind me.”

We share a laugh, thinking about the teenage meltdown of last summer. We’d planned an ice cream social for the fans of one of our groups and it wasn’t pretty when there were servers, but no dessert. Thankfully, Tiffany Jackson had come through for us since Carter had been away on business. But when he returned, it wasn’t a good time at the agency. It goes without saying, that issue hasn’t occurred again, still, I always double-check.

“Also, can we get the design team to shoot me three mock-ups for flyers? I’ll need them by today and once approved, we’ll need to send to the printer. I want the city covered with Osiris.”

“Wow,” Amber comments.
