Carl doesn’t know, but he’s just given me a little bit of ammunition to win Ms. Myka Johnson over. I need to wait until the first thread unravels. I head into the sound booth and signal to the group to begin playing.

We go through the first verse and chorus when Myka returns to the control booth next to Carl. She puts on the earphones and leans in, listening intensely to the lyrics. Her timing couldn’t be more perfect. The next set of words will let me know all I need to know about her.

I look at you like I wanna tear you apart.

Chemistry between us is so combustible.

I knew that from the start.

Embracing your curves, grazing your sensitive parts.

Staring deeply into your soul, healing emotional scars

Grasping your thighs, pulling your legs apart

But this ain’t no game

Say you feel the same.

Let me take away your pain.

Baby, please come play.

Play with me a game of hide and seek.

Where secrets can’t hide love is the key

Oh, come play, with me.

Signs of frustration line her beautiful face. Even from this side of the booth, I can see her chest rise and fall.

I can’t tell what’s being said, but Carl reaches over and pats her arm, then she gets up and leaves.

We finish our last song for today and wait for Carl to release us.

“Okay guys. That’s a wrap. See you all next week at the presser.”

“‘Presser’? Myka has it all set, then?”

“Yeah, that’s why she ran out of here. She said she had some pressing things to get knocked out ahead of next week. She said that you should ask Sebastian to take you home.”

Sure, that was the excuse she may have given Carl, but I know why she left. The flashes of her tattooed side run through my mind. I wonder if she has other tats. I wonder what her skin would taste like if I run my tongue over it.

“Say, bro. You need a lift?” Sebastian asks, interrupting my thoughts.

“Nah, you blokes go ahead. I think I’ll take a car service. I have a few stops to make along the way.”

“You? Take a car service? Are you ill, man? You’ve never utilized that service before.”

I don’t want my brother to know I’m going to go do a few things that are long overdue, but imperative to my plans.

“I’m perfectly well, bro. I promise you. Now go on. Have a nice evening. I think we’ll have a new schedule by tomorrow if our PR has her way.”

He ponders speaking again but instead waves me off. He and the others go their way.

“Simon, I can give you a lift if you need it.”

“No thanks, Carl, but I got this taken care of. According to this message here, I have a driver approaching as we speak. I have a few things to go take care of myself. You never know what Myka will have us doing. Although I know what I would like to be doing when it comes to her.

“Okay. I’ll wait on the label to tell me if anything else needs to be remixed. Great session today.” Carl leaves and I follow closely when my driver pulls up.

“Hi, Mr. Ashton. I’m Eric your driver today. Where can I take you?”

I think for a few minutes then speak. “Take me to Rodeo Drive, please.”
