He took another deep breath and swallowed hard, then pulled a small velvet box out of his pocket and got down on one knee. When he opened the box, I gasped as I saw the platinum ring that had a pink diamond that was cut to look like a rose with a bunch of white diamonds wrapping around it to form a vine.

“Kyler Madeline Strong, will you make me the happiest man in the world and marry me?”

“Yes! Yes, of course!” I giggled.

Ever the gentleman, Ian kissed my hand before sliding the ring on my finger. Then he stood up and kissed me with enough passion to set this whole park on fire, picking me up a foot off the ground and spinning me around. I heard clapping, cheering, hooting, and hollering coming from the peanut gallery, but I tuned it out. This moment belonged to me and Ian.

“I love you so much,” I sniffled when he finally let me talk.

“Seriously, though, how in the hell did Melissa manage to keep her mouth shut?” I chuckled.

He laughed. “It might have involved some threats of bodily harm. So, how amazing is Magic?”

“She’s so sweet. I’m a little mad at you for keeping her from me for so long, but today was perfect. And I got to share it with all the people I love,” I said.

“Come on, baby,” he chuckled, giving me another kiss. “Let’s go celebrate with our friends and family. Then we’ll go get Magic and take her home. And after that, I’m going to spend the rest of the night making love to my gorgeous fiancée.”

I nodded and let him lead me to where everyone was waiting to congratulate us.

Five years ago, if someone would have asked me how I thought my life was going to turn out, I never would have imagined I’d be here. After everything I’d been through in my life – not just my assault, but also dealing with my mother’s abuse – I just hadn’t been able to see a happy ending for myself. But here I was, engaged to the man of my dreams, and with a big chosen family who had loved and supported me through thick and thin.

Happily ever afters and Prince Charmings did exist after all. And I’d found mine.

THE END
