“Love you too,” I murmured.

“I’ll see you soon.”

“See you soon. Bye, Dad.”

Ending the FaceTime call, I turned to Ian. He gave me a sad smile and a kiss, and then I rested my head on his shoulder.

“How are you feeling about all of this, baby?” he asked me.

I sighed. “Right now, my brain’s just kind of fried. I’m glad my dad’s coming out here, though. I need his help dealing with my mom. I can’t do it alone. Not on top of everything else.”

“You’re not alone, baby,” he said, turning to kiss my hairline. “We’re in this together, no matter what.”

“I’ve been thinking about something else too,” I told him. “But I don’t know if it’s stupid. My senior film studies class has a final project that I’m going to be required to submit. A fifteen-minute short film. I was thinking about making a mini documentary about all of this.”

He grinned. “I love that idea. If you think you can handle it. You’ll be spending a lot of time on that project, and I’d hate for it to end up being too much for you.”

“I know it’s weird, but it’s like a way to take my power and my choices back. Every single choice I’ve had about this has been taken away from me or forced on me. Not just the rape, but everything else too. Reporting it. Telling my mom. But this? It’smychoice. And I can tell my story the wayIwant to.”

“Then you should definitely do it,” he said, kissing my head again. “And I’ll help you however you need me to.”
