Dani

I’m still buzzing from thealmostkiss and upcoming date, when Parker returns from his Italian feast with two grande coffees in a carrier.

“You were a while.” I give him a smile. “Good breakfast?”

“Not so much.”

“Oh? Did they burn your panini?” I giggle.

“The food was fine. I’m just trying to get my mind round something else.”

“Right,yeah...” His odd mood goes straight over my head. I’m far too stoked to care where Parker’s mind is going.

“You’ll never guess!”I gush as he drops on the flower sofa, chewing his lip, a deep frown pinching his brow. I don’t give him time to guess. Not that he looks like he’s going to. “I’m going on a date tonight!”

“You really got a date?”

“How about that!” My wide smile is now hurting my face. I want to air-punch and do the silly dance again.

“That’s awesome, Dani. Who’s the guy?”

“Remember the customer who bought me flowers the first day? The flirty guy who had me make two big bouquets? Well, it’s him.”

“That’ssogood. You need to get out and enjoy yourself. You’re becoming a recluse.”

“I’m not!”

“Are too.”

I give him the stink eye, then giggle because it’s true. I am a bit of a recluse, but being holed up in this shop is my kind of heaven. It is also where I feel at home and safe.

I’ve never had a good enough incentive before, but Neal has made me realize I want to venture out there and go on dates. With him, anyway.

Who wouldn’t? He’s sexy, naughty but nice, and has cash to flash. He’d tempt a dead nun from the grave.

“So, what’s your news? What happened at breakfast?” I finally ask him.

“Oh, never mind that.”

“Never mind?” I frown. Something is definitely bothering him. “Parker?”

He won’t look at me. “Now you’re worrying me.Tell me what’s up?”

“Nah... don’t wanna burst your bubble. You have your date first. It can wait ‘til tomorrow.”

I plant my butt on the coffee table in front of him and place my hands on his knees, leaning in so he has to look at me. “No way. Spit it out, bro.”

He takes a deep breath.

“Okay. But you asked for it, right?”

“Yes.”

“Well, I got talking to Luigi, the owner of the cafe. He’s a real nice guy, by the way. Gave me our coffees for free—”

“I’m sure he’s a darling. Now get to the point,” I snap.

“Apparently, he’s selling up.”
