“You and Hunter make me happy,” I said adamantly.

“You make us happy too.”

If that was true, why did everything feel strange? There was a tension that didn’t exist before now. It hung around us, tight and hot. I shivered at the feeling, still confused with my emotions. I couldn’t describe it, but there was terror at the thought that we wouldn’t be the same.

“Is everything ruined?” I fearfully asked.

“No,” Hunter answered.

“So, what happens now?” I wondered. “Because if you start asking me who I love more, I can’t tell you because I love you both the same—”

“Nothing happens,” Leo cut in, assuring me quickly. “We keep going.”

“Keep going how?”

“Just being us, Skye.”

“What isus?” When he didn’t answer, I sat up straight and turned to Hunter, pleading for an answer. “What isus?”

But not even Hunter was looking back at me. He just looked tired, maybe even sad. I looked at Leo, and he was stoic, but his eyes were light and filled with care as he looked back at me.

“We’re just…us,” he finally answered.
