“It’s a lot for a guy to take,” Matthew said.
Other than great looks, Derek sometimes wondered what he’d seen in Matthew. Maybe it wasn’t a good idea to date a childhood friend.
“How does he stand financially? Will he be away most nights working? And does his job take him out of town a lot?”
Derek understood what Matthew was trying to do. As Derek’s lawyer, it was Matthew’s job to protect his assets. “I don’t know.”
Matthew frowned. “Other than he’s cute and he is a photojournalist, you know absolutely nothing about this guy. Have you even tried to look him up on the Internet?”
“No,” Derek admitted. “But he’s willing to give a relationship with me and Jaden a try.”
“So, when am I going to meet this guy?”
Derek used to think Matthew’s big brother attitude cute at times. This wasn’t one of them. “Soon.” His phone rang. He looked down at the display. “It’s him!”
“Who?” Matthew asked.
“Chance Richards.”
“Oh, the great kisser.”
Derek pressed the speaker button and answered. “Hello?”
“Hi, it’s me, Chance Richards.”
“Yes, Chance?”
“I hope I haven’t caught you at a bad moment, but my boss loved the pictures and the story and wants to use it in our next magazine.”
“That’s great,” Derek said.
“I have the release forms for you to sign. When can we meet?”
“You know my situation.”
“Do you have any free time this afternoon? Some bands are giving a concert in a park and I’m sure Jaden would love the outing.”
Derek poked his tongue at Matthew. “Yes, what time?”
“Three,” Chance answered.
“I’ll have Edna pack us a lunch,” Derek said excitedly. “Where exactly is this park? I can bring Jaden there so you don’t have to drive all the way to Castle Hill to get us.”
Chance gave him the directions. Derek knew the park. “I’ll see you there at three.”
“Okay.”
Derek disconnected the call. “Well, what do you think?”
“About his voice? Or the fact that you’ve already done the interview for him?” Matthew asked.
“He came over for dinner last night and he had his equipment with him. It wasn’t bad, and he didn’t ask any questions that would ruin my business.”
“He does have a nice voice and he did go out of his way to find a venue to include Jaden. So, I guess he could be okay. You’ll be around a lot of people so he won’t try anything.”
“Everything is not about sex,” Derek said as he picked up the papers Matthew had brought. He looked them over and signed.
“Sex is everything,” Matthew said.
