“You can tell a man by his space,” Derek said as he looked around.
“Very funny,” Chance said. “I’ll go lay Jaden on my bed.” He returned and gave Derek the grand tour.
Derek found the place quaint. The apartment had three bedrooms, a small kitchen, one bathroom, and a living room. Chance used one of the bedrooms as a darkroom. Derek checked on Jaden in Chance’s bedroom while Chance picked up his discarded clothing and tossed it into the hamper. They walked to the front of the apartment.
“I have beer and water. Which one do you prefer?”
“Water is fine,” Derek said.
Chance got it along with a can of beer for himself. He joined Derek in the living room. “See, it’s nothing fancy.”
“What do you do for fun when you’re not jogging or working?”
Chance took a sip of his beer. “I go clubbing with my friends. Sometimes we go to the sports bar.”
“Oh. What are your friends like?”
“They’re all good guys,” Chance said. “We’ve known each other since college.”
“Are any of them married?” Derek asked. He opened his bottle of water and sipped some.
“No,” Chance answered. “We’re just thirty, not fifty.”
Not exactly the answer Derek wanted to hear. Chance went to work, slept, and partied. Not what Derek needed in his life.
Jaden woke up crying. “We better go,” Derek said, rising. He walked to the bedroom to get the baby and came back into the living room. “Thanks for inviting us to the park.”
“Why do I hear a bit of disappointment in your voice?” Chance asked.
“I want this to work between us, but I don’t want to take you away from your friends. It wouldn’t be fair to you.”
Chance moved in closer to him. “Let me worry about that.” He ran his finger across Derek’s cheek. “I’ll try my best to make you happy.” Derek headed for the door and Chance followed. He pulled Derek close. “I’ve been thinking about you since we met. I want to be with you in the biblical sense.”
Derek rolled his eyes at the ceiling. “So corny.”
“Ah, come on. You know I’m interested in you in that way. You’re gorgeous, have a great body, and you’re so classy. I’ve never dated a guy with a butler and a nanny before.”
Derek tried to hide his smile. “I’m no different than any other guy, except I’m a father.”
“A very sexy one,” Chance said. He leaned down and stole a kiss.
Derek moaned as Chance deepened the kiss.He’s so good at this. Maybe things can work themselves out.
Chance broke the kiss. “Are you sure you can’t stay?”
So, tempting.“I’m sure. We will have other opportunities to bond.”
Chance chuckled wickedly. “I’d like to do more than bond with you.” He opened the door and walked down with Derek.
Derek put the sleeping Jaden in his car seat and closed the door. Chance stole another kiss. “I’ll call you tomorrow.”
“Okay,” Derek said. He walked around to the driver’s seat and slid in. He blew his horn and waved as he drove away from the curb. Only then did he allow himself to smile.He is so sexy.

“Long time, no see,” Nash Edwards said to Chance after Chance sat down at the table next to him. They high-fived each other. Nash practiced law when he wasn’t hanging out in clubs.
“I’ve been busy,” Chance explained.
