“You fancy him, don’t you,” Edgar said.

“Yes,” Chance answered honestly. “But he’s a pretty busy guy.”

“Yes, I read the article, remember? His suit costs more than you earn in a week.”

“He has a closet full of them,” Chance said.

“You’ve been in his bedroom?”

Chance nodded. “He gave me a tour of his home. I’ve never seen so many pairs of shoes.”

Edgar chuckled. “The brat does have class. The other guy, too. Do you happen to know who he is?”

“Oh, you mean the tall, muscular one with the blond hair.”

“Yes, he seems very territorial. I wonder if they’re lovers.”

Chance nearly choked on a cherry tomato. “Who says Derek is gay?”

“You wouldn’t be interested in him if he weren’t,”

That wasn’t entirely true. He’d checked out some non-gay guys before. “Derek is a nice fellow.”

“Yes, so you’ve said before. But I wouldn’t mind getting to know him better.”

“He has a kid, remember?”

“So do I,” Edgar said.

Edgar had tried the heterosexual marriage thing in his youth, fathered two kids then came out of the closet. He didn’t even have custody of them. Derek definitely didn’t need someone like Edgar.

“I’d like to see what is hiding behind those exquisite blue-green eyes.”

“So would I.”

“What are you going to do with a billionaire?” Edgar asked.

“Same thing you plan to do with him. But Derek isn’t prey.”

“He has such a nice ass,” Edgar said. He chuckled. “You look like you want to strangle me.”

Edgar was right about that. Chance didn’t want Edgar near Derek. The pharmaceutical CEO deserved someone who cared about him and not just his ass.

Chance didn’t get around to actually calling Derek for a couple of nights because one of the other magazines he worked for called him about a big job. He did get a chance to text him and apologize.

“Can we meet for dinner?” Chance asked when he finally got him on the phone several days later.

“Sorry,” Derek said. “I have parenting class tonight.”

“Can’t you reschedule it?” Chance asked.

“No,” Derek replied. “I need to learn how to take care of Jaden.”

“Is he a sickly child?”

“No. It’s a CPR class and it’s better safe than sorry.”

“Okay,” Chance said. He hung up before he could explain about the magazine deadline.
