“You’re a better man than I,” Chance said. “I wouldn’t give Matthew the time of day if he’d done that to me.”
“Hmm, a lot of people told me exactly the same thing,” Derek said. “Maybe they’re right, but it’s too late now. Holding grudges and playing the victim is not my forte, Chance. Matthew is my attorney and a damn good one. He looks out for mine, and Jaden’s welfare, and makes sure no one takes advantage of me.”
Chance swallowed. “I suppose he’s had me investigated.”
“Yes,” Derek said. “That’s part of his job.”
Chance didn’t think Derek was being completely honest with himself about his feelings for Matthew. “Do the two of you still…?”
“No,” Derek answered. “I’m not that stupid or needy.”
“How many relationships have you had since you two broke up?”
“None,” Derek answered. “How about you? How many guys have you been with lately?”
“None, since I’ve met you,” Chance answered. “But I’m hoping my luck changes tonight.”
Derek smirked at him.

Edna and Bruster entered the den after dinner. He and Derek had found their way there to sip some wine and chat.
“We’re leaving now,” Edna said. “Have a good evening.”
“You too,” Derek said.
“They don’t live here?” Derek asked after he heard the front door closed.
“No, they both have homes on the premises.” He went over to the stereo and put on some music. The sound filtered through the house. He headed toward the stairs. “Come with me.”
Chance grabbed his wine glass and followed him up the stairs. “Where are we going?”
“My room,” Derek answered.
“Why?”
“Because I think I’m falling in love with you and I want you to make love to me.”
Chance nearly dropped the glass. He gulped. He hoped he could put that smile back on Derek’s face. He didn’t remember who stripped who first. Clothes went in every direction.
“There’s lube in the top drawer next to the bed,” Derek said,
