“Nothing,” Derek answered. “It’s getting late and I have to get up early.”

Chance shrugged. He knew he didn’t get the signals wrong. Derek Webster was interested in him, but was holding back for some reason. Chance decided to give him some space and time.

They left Derek’s room and headed back down the stairs. Chance got his things and Derek walked him to the foyer. Chance took off the slippers and put on his shoes.

“I’ll get in touch with you as soon as I show the pictures and article to my boss.”

“I’ll expect your call,” Derek said.

“Please thank Edna for the dinner and tell her it was delicious.”

Derek opened the door. “I will.”

Chance stepped outside, waved goodbye, and headed for his car to put his equipment in the backseat. He turned just in time to see Derek wipe the tears away from his eyes. What had happened between looking at the moon and the kiss? On a whim, he walked back to Derek and pulled him into his arms for another kiss. Derek trembled against him and then stepped away again.

“What did you do that for?” Derek asked.

“Because you looked like you needed it. I don’t know what’s wrong and I won’t pry, but I feel things for you I’ve haven’t felt for anyone else, and I would hate for the night to end without me at least attempting to get that point across.”

“I feel it too,” Derek admitted.

“Then why did you suddenly go all cold on me upstairs in your bedroom?” Chance asked.

Derek shrugged. “Most guys run for the hills the moment they learn that Jaden and I are a package deal. Maybe I’m afraid that you’ll do the same thing.”

“That’s unfair, Derek. Don’t put me in a group with other guys. Give me a chance to prove that I’m different. I know you have to be there for Jaden and can’t go clubbing. But I’m sure we can still go places that’re baby-friendly.”

Derek relaxed his stance. “I’d like that.” The twinkle returned to those incredible green eyes.

“Sleep well,” Chance said as he walked away.

“You too,” Derek replied.

Chance got into this car, started it, and drove away without looking back. He would see Derek and Jaden Webster again. In fact, he looked forward to it.
