Nayome was getting frustrated. “What did you find, Nick?”

“It looks like that box of stuff your biological mom left—”

Nayome cursed, cutting Nick off. She hadn’t looked for that box in years, but she had assumed it was still tucked away safely in her closet.

“The movers must have just assumed that because it was in a box, it needed to be loaded on the truck…”

“Yeah, whatever Nick.” Frustrated, Nayome would have been happy to never set eyes on his two timing face again, but she wanted that box back. And he was right, it was too valuable to just drop it off on her doorstep.

“I’m back on Monday afternoon, can you bring the box to my place then?”

“Sure thing. Hey listen, Nayome, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking and—”

“It’s late Nick, I have to go.”

“Ah Sure, goodnight, then.”

Nayome hung up and flung her phone across the bed. It landed softly, cushioned by the fluffy duvet. Agitated, Nayome leapt out of bed and paced the length of the room a few times. This day, which had started off with a picnic and a bone melting kiss, had gone really quickly and spectacularly downhill.

Making a decision, Nayome sent a quick text off to the number Bal had given her.

‘A hotel opened up closer to the airport, I’ve left town. Will need to cancel tomorrow. Thanks again for everything. Goodbye.’

Send.

Nayome hesitated over Bal’s contact for a second before she deleted, and blocked his number. That was it, then. She hadn’t kept the card with his number on it, so there was no way for him to contact her, or for her to contact him.

It was over.

Nayome lowered herself onto the corner of the bed, as she felt her eyes well with unshed tears. Wiping them away angrily, she crawled back into bed and turned something mindless on TV, needing the distraction.I made the right decision, she thought somewhat angrily at herself. If she had talked to Bal again, she would have wanted to see him. It needed to end, for both of their sakes. They barely knew each other, anyway.

He would understand. Hell, he might not even care. She had always just been passing through town, anyway. So why do I feel like I just made a huge mistake?
