“Well, I can’t knock people for caring, even if their efforts tend to be misplaced or half informed.”

“That’s why we are here, to cut through the BS and deliver some real information people can use to make informed choices.” James smiled as he delivered that line, like he was being interviewed.

“Right, that’s our only motivation. It has nothing to do with your precious bottom line?” Nayome said, but she was smiling.

“We can’t do what we do without funding,” James said simply.

He was right, of course, Nayome was just glad the institute had managed to maintain a core of integrity through the years. The heart of the place was passionate about climate research, and the work they did was moving the science forward. Some fluff publications to pay the bills were a necessary evil, and they at least made sure they were well researched and informative.

“Alright, I owe you one for this dud of a project,” Nayome agreed.

“Nah, you have good instincts, I’m glad you followed them even if it didn’t pan out. I am going to take you up on this IOU, though, I think it’s going to be a huge hit…”

As Nayome listened to James’ pitch, she couldn’t help a glance down to her cell. Still nothing from Bal. Focusing on James, Nayome took some notes and resigned herself to get her head back on straight.
