Abigail paused at the door and looked at Oliver. ‘I think something happened the night me, you and Toby were all born.’ Abigail was thinking about her visit to Joyce and how agitated she had become when she’d started talking about two babies and a mistake she’d made the night of the Great Storm. ‘I think it has something to do with all this. And Albert knows …’ She recalled what he’d said.We made a promise to Daphne that the truth will never pass our lips.

‘You’re right, Abigail. He knows something about all this,’ Carys said. She remembered his reaction when he saw her, calling her stupid and warning her that she’d better leave well alone because nothing good would come of finding out the truth. Carys disagreed. Now more than ever she was with Oliver on this one; after those results, she wanted to know what the hell was going on.

Hugh rounded the desk. ‘I’m coming too.’

‘So am I.’ Carys followed her father across the room.

They all paused at the door. ‘Oliver?’

He was still seated at the desk. He looked up. ‘We’re cousins? How can that be?’

Abigail looked at him. ‘If you want answers, then come with me.’
