GRACE

After my father caught me with Rhett, he began to make my life a living hell. He had guards on me twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. I’m pretty sure he told Clark as well, but I’m not sure how he twisted it. Clark never said a word about it, but even he seemed to treat me differently. He seemed to have lost the sparkle in his eye he used to have for me.

Clark and my parents suddenly insisted we move up the wedding. My mother took over the planning, and I had very little say in it.

I didn’t care. I couldn’t forget what Rhett had told me that night. He still loved me and bought a home for us.

There was no way I could marry Clark.

I didn’t know how to get ahold of Rhett but I remembered him mentioning living in his same apartment and living simply. I could get to him there and pray he was there or wait until he got home and hope no one found me.

I managed to elude my guards one night and had enough cash to pay a taxi to take me to Rhett’s. I didn’t dare use any credit cards as I’m sure he would track me down. I didn’t want any of his dirty money anyway.

Now I was at Rhett’s and safely in his arms.

I wrapped my legs around his waist and threw my arms around his neck. He felt so good and felt like I was finally home again.

He didn’t say anything at first, just rubbing my back. He shut the door and carried me to his couch. We sat down and he cupped my face in his hands, searching my eyes.

“Are you okay? No one hurt you, did they?” His green eyes flashed with anger.

“No one hurt me.” I shook my head. “And I’m okay now. Although we probably shouldn’t stay here long. When they find out I’m gone, I’m pretty sure the whole city will be here looking for me.”

Rhett flashed his smile at me. “Don’t worry, Princess. I’ve planned for this day. It’s just you and me and we can get whatever else we need later.” He kissed my forehead and stood up. “I have to get a few things and we can be out of here in a few minutes.”

I watched him move about his apartment, going back to the bedroom and coming back with some papers. He made a quick phone call and then reached for my hand.

I took it and he pulled me up off the couch. He slid his hand down to grab my ass and groaned. “I want to finally make love to you, but we have to go.” He paused. “Don’t tell me you slept with Clark already.”

My face got warm and I looked down at my feet. “Damn it, Princess. I wanted to be your one and only.” He kissed my cheek. “That’s ok. I’ll show you what it’s like to have sex with a real man.” Rhett winked and I felt a pull between my legs. I had no doubt he made love very differently than Clark.

“Let’s go.”

We left his apartment and a car was waiting outside. I didn’t ask any questions and Rhett held my hand the whole time, his thumb stroking the back of my hand.

As excited as I was to start this new life with him, I was terrified of the unknown. I had no doubt he’d love me and take care of me.

The car dropped us off at a tiny private airport just outside of town. A small plane was waiting for us.

“Where are we going?” I asked as we settled in and buckled our seatbelts.

“Home,” Rhett smiled and winked.

I must have dozed off shortly after we took off because Rhett was rubbing my arm and kissing my neck. “Wake up Sleeping Beauty. We’re here.” I sat up quickly and looked out the plane window, seeing the palm trees. We exited the plane and were hit with a wave of heat and humidity.

Once again, a driver was waiting for us. I had no idea how Rhett had all of this planned so well, but I wasn’t going to ask any questions.

We drove along the water for what seemed like forever and the car finally pulled into a long driveway. At the end of the driveway was the beach and to the left was a little bungalow.

When we got out of the car, Rhett picked me up and carried me to the door. “Welcome home, Princess.”
