“Then don’t think. Feel.” He held her palm against his beating heart so she could feel the heat. He slid her hand down to where he ached most, so she could feel his attraction. Then he kissed her knuckles with a smirk so she could see his determination. “That real enough for you?”

She blushed and couldn’t meet his eyes.

“For you, Daze. I ache for you.”

Her lashes lifted and she smoldered. Gone was the bashful woman. In was the vixen. That raging spitfire he’d glimpsed fighting to protect Elena and him at the batting cage. Relentless. Determined. Loyal. She flicked her wrist, and the white bullwhip length flew up. She caught the end and used the length across the back of his neck, forcing his head down until their lips met. But didn’t kiss. She was a lioness playing with her food.

“Baby, you’re teasing me.” His lips fluttered against hers as he spoke.

She laughed and pushed off. “Let’s go.”

He watched her as she sauntered to the door. Before he followed, his eyes tracked to where she’d left the baseball bat. He jogged to pick it up.

“You’ve got the something old,” he said and indicated to her Falcon mask, sword and bullwhip. “Here’s something new.”

Her eyes widened gratefully as she accepted the bat and clutched it a little like a security blanket.

“Something borrowed.” She grabbed his shirt, yanked him close and gave him that elusive kiss. Then cupped his balls. “Something blue.”

He chuckled. When she wasn’t doubting herself, she had a wicked sense of humor, and he loved it. Her smile was brighter than the dawn and when she walked outside, it tugged him after her. With each passing minute they’d spent together, she became more confident, happier, and stronger. The idea that the shadow of a single man had taken her sunshine away brought his violence back.

Fuck Julius. He was going down.
