Page 48 of Obsession Within

I love you. Some part of me always will. But I know you never felt the same way. I’m pregnant Hudson. I wanted to tell you a few nights ago but I couldn’t. I’m only a month…I didn’t know you would show up tonight, but I hoped you did come. Maybe to torture me one last time. If I don’t do this now, I know I’ll never stop obsessing over you. It’s become like an addiction and you’re all I can think of now. I love you…I’m sorry for holding you back… —Lily

“Lily?” I call her name once and when she doesn’t respond I know that she’s never going to respond again. She’s gone.

She’s gone,a voice in my head repeats.She’s gone, she’s gone, she’s gone.

I suddenly wake up to find myself back in the library and my heart pounds loudly in my ears like a wild drumbeat.

Thud! Thud! Thud!

It’s too suffocating to sit in here and I can still smell the tangy stench of the blood, so I gather my books and Macbook and stuff it into my backpack, before leaving the library.

Thankfully it’s hot out, so I pull on my shades as I leave Kensington gates and take a subway ride to Lexington Avenue.

When I reach Lexington, I take a cool walk down the crowded sidewalk and even buy a hotdog with chili. Food somehow always makes me feel better. I can eat and think better.

As I take a bite, my phone starts to buzz like crazy in my jeans pocket. I take it out and stare at the screen as it blows up with messages from Diana.

And then her caller ID pops up on the screen, so I swallow the piece of hotdog in my mouth and answer the call.

“Hey, Diana, what’s up?” I really don’t have time for her trivial needs right now.

“What’s up? I need to see you right now!” She’s screaming on her end of the line.

“D, what’s wrong?”

“Hudson,” she says in an icy tone. “I need to fucking see you right now. Meet me at the hotel.”

The call goes dead and I stare at the screen in confusion, no longer hungry as I hail a cab and head towards our usual meeting place, Skyline Hotel.
