“Which is why you’re coming out with us tonight. You say no every Friday, but tonight you’re coming to SoHo with us,” June promises with a mischievous wink.
Maybe you can put up Instagram stories too and make him jealous for not calling. It’s probably not worth it, but it’ll be fun.
“I will think about it,” I tell June, taking a celery stick from the container in the middle of our table.
“Oh, you are coming. Forget about going home. You’re going to have fun. The girls and I get together and do a clothes swap. I’m sure we can find something for you,” June says. “Besides, you can’t be sad on a Friday night.”
I smile. “I’m not sad.”
She shakes her head. “You’re a really bad liar, Parker. Clearly, you look like you’ve been through hell. But I’m here for you, okay baby?”
“Thank you for being there.”
“Always, now there’s this new kind of nightclub opening tonight in Soho. It’s a rooftop club,” June says.
My phone buzzes on my desk twice and then my screen lights up and two new texts pop up from Hudson.
My heart jumps at the sight of his name. After everything, my body still reacts to him. I slide my finger across the screen and head into our chat.

A third text comes through and I can feel the tears burning at the back of my eyes.Fuck.

I switch the phone screen up and instead listen to June. It’s best if things are this way. I’m not going to message him back. I’m not going to see him tonight.
