He drops his wine glass and it shatters against the floor. Everyone looks at him gasping and whispering in shock and I start after him but Eric grabs my hand.

There’s anger present in his dark eyes as he digs his fingers into my wrist, his voice is cold as he speaks.

“I’m not done. I won’t leave it like this. He’s a fucking monster and he won’t tell anyone what he did unless I do.”

I pulled my hand back. “You bumping into me that morning was all just an act? Sleeping me? What was that? I genuinely took you as a friend.”

Eric walks backward. “I’m sorry. Not everyone is who they say they are, Parker. I’ve been watching and waiting far too long. I’m going to make him pay and if you stick around, I’ll make you pay too.”

I watch as Eric leaves before I make my way down and by the time I reach the bottom of the building, there’s no sign of Hudson anywhere.

With trembling hands, I pull out my phone and call his number three times only for it to go to direct voicemail.

So I call Matt instead as I flag down a cab to our townhouse.

“Hey,” Matt answers in the third ring. “Long time no see, Parker. What’s up?

“Do you know where Hudson is?” I ask in a shaky voice.

“No.” I can hear the confusion in Matt’s voice. “Why?”

“I don’t know where he is.”

“What do you mean?”

I explain to him the entire situation and after a silent beat, Matt curses on his end of the line.

“Look, I don’t know what to tell you, Parker. I’m really sorry you got mixed up in all of this. I’ll try and look for him. He’ll probably come back, okay?” Matt sounds really reassuring, so I end the call and wait patiently as the cab stops outside of the townhouse.

I unlock the door with my set of keys and rush inside. “Hudson?!”

Silence and total darkness answer me.He’s not here,I think.Fuck, where are you, Hudson?

I stay up for hours, probably sending over a hundred calls until sleep finally pulls at my eyes.

Holding a pillow close to my chest, I sleep for what seems like an hour when I hear birds chirping and my breathing is the only noise filling the empty void.

Tears blur my vision as I read one new text from Matt.

I don’t know where he is —M

I press call on his number and it goes straight to voicemail again.

He’s not coming back.
