I continue watching him. He’s holding back on saying something—I’m not sure what, but he’s mulling over it.

"What?" I ask, looking him up and down.

"I hope you don’t get angry at this," he says. The elevator gets to the lobby, and it opens, but he makes no move to leave. "It’s none of my business."

"I’m asking you, so I obviously want to know."

"You’re a grown woman," he says, so quietly I can hardly hear him. "But you’re also in a vulnerable position, and while I can see the appeal of Rei or Misha, you should probably not hook up with either one of them until this is all over."

I open my mouth to argue with him, but he shakes his head before I can.

"You’re going to start remembering stuff," he says. "And I think some of it, it’ll be…surprising. I want you to have all the information you need before you make a decision like this."

I swallow, my heart beating hard. "Are you saying they’re manipulating me?"

"No," he replies. "I wouldn’t let that happen. I’m just saying that you don’t have all the facts, and you seem like the kind of person who likes facts. Do you?"

Someone walks toward the elevator, and I shake my head, trying my best to ignore the knot tightening at the pit of my stomach. "Yeah," I say, walking out of the elevator and leaving him behind. "Yeah, I do."
