Chapter 14

Sophie

The next morning, I wake up in bed alone, again. This time I see a note I beside me.

I have to go into work, and don’t wanna wake you. See you later. C

Awe, that is sweet. He does care. I get dressed and head down to see Jones in the kitchen. I ask Jones about Ruairi but get swiftly told it will take more than a little bullet wound to keep that beast down. I spent my day with him in the kitchen and garden. I think he knew I am a little nervous but is happy for my company. The day goes by fast. We talk about life and family and just about anything. Dinner came and went but still no sign of Cahill. When I got tired, Jones, being the gentleman he is, let me go to bed while he sat on the chair.

A few hours later I feel the bed dip as Cahill slips in beside me. He kisses my neck and runs his hands up and down my back. I can feel him harden at my back as he slips my knickers to the side and slides his rock-hard cock inside me. It is the best feeling. I can’t get enough of him inside me. He keeps kissing my neck, rocking back and forth inside me slowly. I keep trying to push my ass back into him, but he nips my neck to keep me in place, he must want this pace. I feel his hand move round my side, over my tummy, to touch my clit, which is begging for his attention, and he makes me sing his tune. As I start to calm down only then do I realize he had come too. He keeps kissing me and I fall back to sleep in his arms.

The next morning when I wake, Cahill is gone again. Did last night even happen? Did I dream it? It’s only because of his cum still leaking out of me that I know for sure it was real. A few days go by with me waking alone, seeing Jones, going to bed alone, being woken with Cahill’s cock inside me or his head between my legs, and then wake up alone. It’s very lonely and confusing.

On Thursday Ruairi walks downstairs to Jones and me in the kitchen.

“Sophie, I would really like to work with you. I think you have amazing ideas for the casino. Would you mind coming to the casino today to have a look around so we can see about putting your ideas in place?”

I jump up and down. I am so excited. Cahill said Ruairi loved my ideas but now I am going to see them come to life.

“Cahill said I could do this full time for him, so I have handed in my notice at work. I officially don’t leave them for another two weeks. But can I still come today with you?”

I am worried about getting someone or myself into trouble. I haven’t left a job to work at another in years. Only when I got my dental nurse job, but I left a cash in hand job, so that wasn’t a big deal.

“It’s grand. You can still come today and get a feel for the place. Then I will put you on the booksofficiallyin two weeks?”

“Cool, cool.” I am trying to sound relaxed but end up sounding more like Jake Peralta fromBrooklyn Nine-Nine. I am so excited, nervous, and stressed.

“Just need to grab shoes. I will be two minutes.” I squeak as I run back up the stairs. As I walk back down, I overhear Jones and Ruairi.

“What have you found out?” Jones asked.

“Nothing much. I think it’s her dad. I think he is head of the unionist. And I don’t think he likes that she is involved with the mob now. But I can’t be sure. Cahill has been working flat-out. He has more blood on his hands this week than I have seen in a long time. Anyone and everyone are getting questioned,” Ruairi tells him.

“What happened to the twat that got the smoke bomb in the house? Did you ever get him?”

“Oh, we got him. He is now swimming with the fish minus his limbs. He was following Connor, the new solider. Connor was still learning a few things but mainly had it down. Connor was walking to work that morning. He caught him, stripped him, and then slit his throat. Connor was found in the bushes two blocks away. That’s how he got in. Cahill and Shay, head of security, both took it out on the twat. Surprised you didn’t hear him as we had him caged below for a few days. He did sing eventually. We got the top dogs name, Harry Evans. Have you ever heard of him?”

“I don’t think I have, but I will reach out to a few lads still serving and see if they can help.” Jones said.

What the heck is going on? Cahill is killing people over me. My safety? They think my dad is trying to kill me. Then are they saying my dad isn’t a great man either. I don’t know what to believe or understand. Why is this happening to me? My mam always avoided talking about my father. Does she know he is crazy? Is that why she ran away? Was she trying to protect me? Has he known me my whole life? Harry Evans, I need to remember that to Google it later. And I need to call my mam. But first, I need to paint on my smile, go to the casino with Ruairi and act like I heard nothing. Once I get home, I can try to sort this out with a glass of gin.

I bounce down the stairs and meet Ruairi. We head to the casino in his car, it’s black of course, and some sort of pick up, I think it’s a Ford.

“This is quiet. A country man's car.”

“I will take that as a compliment.” He laughs back at me. “Lauren keeps asking if we are looking after you.”

“What is your reply to her?”

“That you are smitten by Cahill, and I don’t think you will return home to live but will call by soon when you can untangle yourself from him.”

I am glowing bright red. I can’t believe he just said that, and to my best friend. I call her like every other day, and I know she knows I am falling for Cahill, but Ruairi didn’t need to tell her we fuck all the time. Does Ruairi hear us? Is that how he knows? I can’t sleep in Cahill’s bed anymore. The rest of the car journey is quiet.

Just as we are about to pull up, Ruairi informs me, “You know I was pulling your leg ‘bout telling Lauren that. She just checks to make sure you are happy, and I tell her you are, because you are ninety percent of the time when you aren’t being a target.”

He smiles to me before saying, “She also loves my muff dive t-shirt.”

I burst out laughing. Lauren would love it because I kept threatening her I’d make her wear one on a night out if she didn’t stop trying to play matchmaker. But that’s all in the past.
