“No, mum. I don’t know him. I am sorry, but I am safe with Cahill. Can you tell my father this so he can back off and leave me alone, please? I could maybe meet him for coffee someday in the future, if he would like and try to have a father/daughter relationship.”

I try to stay strong and keep my back straight. I don’t want to show my mum or Liam that I am slightly hurt to find out about my father this way and that my mum still talks to him. I wish I knew sooner.

“Thank you for coming all this way mum but I need to head back to work. I will get up home soon. Just need work to settle down.” I smile and stand up.

Mum stands too and hugs me. “I’m sorry, darlin’, I was only doing what I thought was best for you. I love you.” She smiles back at me. “Now go be a kick ass boss, and I will call ya when I get up home safely.”

“Love you too, mum.”

I turn and head for the door. I don’t see Liam. He must be grabbing the car. I don’t even know what Kiera looks like to look for her. I step outside and look to the left for an over-the-top white RS.

I feel something hard poke into my side. A menacing voice snarls, “Keep looking forward and smiling, bitch. Do what I say, and you won't die… today. Now walk toward that blue Clio.”

“I am getting kidnapped in a fucking blue Clio. Seriously. Is this my father's doing?”

“What did I fucking tell you? Walk! I didn’t tell you to talk!” he whisper-shouts in my ear.

“Now, now, calm down. You need to keep smiling too.” I smirk.

Like my day can't get any worse. I walk slowly to the Clio. I am trying to find something I can use. Not sure what can beat a gun, but it is the afternoon, so I don’t think he will use it, he won't want to draw attention to himself, right? I read way too many books. If he wants me dead, he won't care. Even though I can’t see him, his voice does seem familiar to me. I make myself tumble down on the pavement beside a crowd of young lads heading to the gym or somewhere. I can be dramatic when I need to be. I land on my knees with my hands out front of me, meaning the man behind me has to hide his gun quick or show the lads, his choice. One of the lads bends down.

“Are you ok, lass? Miss your step? Can you get up?” he asks while looking over me, I assume to make sure I am not to hurt from the fall.

Just as I am about to answer, the man trying to kidnap me speaks, “She is fine. Get up now. You are making a scene.” He all but growls out between gritted teeth. As I am about to push up to stand another lad steps forward.

“She might be hurt man, give the lady a chance.”

All the while he is texting on his phone as if he doesn’t really care about me. Then my kidnapper bends down, whispers in my ear, “Get the fuck up now and I will make your death quick and painless.” I don’t believe him, but it is making me doubt he is working for my father, maybe it’s one of the other families. Just as I stand up to dust myself off, I see the white RS turn the corner with a window down and gun pointed out.

“Get in, girl!”

I run without thinking and hear the pop of a gun going off. I don’t look behind me or stop. I keep running toward Liam. I open the car door and just get my ass on the seat when Liam takes off and the door slams shut from the force of him taking off. I hold onto the door while Liam drives like a wild man, smiling the whole time I might add.

“Girl, you need your belt on. That beeping won’t stop till you do. Safety first.”

He informs me as he’s doing like 80mph in the city, as if it is any other normal day. I put my belt on and just sit there watching and silently praying. After about ten minutes he slows down and just keeps driving around the city.

“What happened?” Liam asks me.

“You’re asking me! Where the fuck were you? I thought you heard me say bye to mum and slipped out. I walked outside and then the crazy man had a gun on, had me walking toward a blue Clio. I made myself fall in front of a crowd, hoping the kidnapper would dash off or the lads would step in. I don’t really know what happened. I didn’t even think to get a look at him. But he did tell me he was going to kill me at least twice, I think. So that makes me think he wasn’t working with my father. Mum kept saying my father wanted to keep me safe. I forgot to ask for my father’s name. Shit. Am I helping at all?”

Liam laughs. “You do like to ramble on, but it has kept you distracted. We are home. Let’s go see Cahill before he busts my balls.”

We walk into the house and Jones is at the door. He grabs me, checking me over for any injury and then hugs me.

“You scared me, bird. Cahill is in his office waiting for you… both.”

“Thanks, Jones. Let’s get this over with,” I say, looking at Liam.

Liam opens the office door for me, and I see Cahill sitting at his desk with a glass of whiskey in hand. Ruairi is pacing the floor. When he sees me, I see him physically relax, before his posture turns aggressive and he punches Liam square on the nose! I didn’t see that coming.

“What the fuck, Ruairi? Liam did all he could! You need to step outside and calm down!” I practically shout at him. I bend down to Liam.

“Are you ok? I will ask Jones to grab ice. Do you think it’s broken?” I really hope it’s not because he has such a pretty face.

“Sophie, it’s ok. I am ok. I deserved that. I should have done better.” Then he stands back up and looks at Cahill.

“Aren’t you going to do, or say something?” I ask Cahill. I watch as he stands up from behind his desk and walks in front of Liam. The darkness in his eyes scares me. Before I know it, he stabs Liam in his left side. Liam’s eyes go wide, but he makes no sound. Then Cahill removes the knife and sits back down. I hold Liam and get him on a seat. Ruairi is still pacing.
