“Who will accompany you?” Kristy taps in her iPad.

Zane scratches his chin, looking between her and me. “You need a name r-right now?”

“No, not necessarily.” Kristy looks at me and I nod.

“Then let me th-think a bit mor-re.”

“Mr. Teager.” My executive assistant, Linda, knocks on the door. “Your wife is here.” She smiles and my chest flutters watching Hope step in. I’m still getting used to her being called my wife.

“Hi.” Hope gives us a tiny wave, nervously looking around.

I walk to my jittery wife. “One of the most important people you need to know here is Linda.”

“It’s so nice to finally meet you, Mrs. Teager.”

“Oh, please call me Hope.”

Linda gives her a warm smile before leaving the room.

When Zane hugs my wife, an affectionate smile pulls on her lips. No surprise that he won her over. Zane is the best fucking person in the whole world. He genuinely cares about people, especially family, and unlike me, he doesn’t try to hide his vulnerability. I don’t know how he does that.

But Hope’s eyes widen when Kristy hugs her. I guess my wife’s taken by surprise at Kristy’s affection.

Kristy and Zane finally leave, and I lead Hope to the couch.

“I didn’t know your office was so big.” Her huge eyes look around and I’m sure she’s again thinking that I’ve rushed into this marriage.

Once, or sometimes twice, a day I have to remind her that I’ve thought this through. I grab her hands clutching the hem of her T-shirt.

“Did you really expect me to work in a small office?” I smirk when her attention is back on my face. “Luxury is my second name, Hopper.”

She snorts before lightly smacking my hand.

My chest inflates watching her grin. She does like my craziness.

“Okay, Mr. Luxury, introduce me to your staff and then I have to leave for the bakery.”

“You are such a good student. In a week, you have learned so much of my wit,” I tell her after texting Keith, and he confirms he’s already in the building.

“I’m no student of yours,” she says, biting back that wide smile and failing at it.

“I’m sure in no time we’ll be the most witty and hilarious couple in the whole state. What do you say, wifey?”

“I say you are crazy.” Hope chuckles and it stops when the door to my office opens.

Dressed in a black T-shirt, jeans, heavy boots, and a chestnut leather jacket, Keith treads inside my office. Friendly isn’t a word I’d use to associate with Keith’s straight face.

“Hope, meet Keith Adams. He is a very good friend and also the head of my security.”

Her gaze follows Keith as he takes a seat across from us.

As always, he goes straight to business without any preamble. “If you don’t mind, I need your cell phone for a while. I’ll install some apps that would help us keep track of your movements. Later, I would also like for you to meet my street team. We already have a security detail outside Ray’s school.”

“Th-there is security outside Ray’s school?” Hope’s eyebrows reach the middle of her forehead on her pale face.

When I nod, she swallows deep before clearing her throat. “At home too?”

“We don’t need anyone while William is there.” I smile, trying to erase some of the frown lines from her face.
