“I do.” I didn’t give myself a chance to talk myself out of it. It would be such a relief to get rid of the hand-me-down set we’d acquired. I’d never liked it. It was too big and clunky for the tiny room, and I had permanent bruises from where I bumped my shins on the corners.

“Then we’ll keep the new today simple. I can’t wait to see that room opened up. So many possibilities.” Bibi motioned for me to follow her.

The bed was already out of the room, revealing the junk that had been shoved underneath and forgotten. It was shocking. Bibi went straight for the curtains. They were a heavy calico pattern and were probably older than both of us. She easily removed the rod and let the fabric slide off.

“So much better in here already. Brighter.” She assessed the situation. “Do you need any of this stuff in the middle of the room?”

It wasn’t actually junk. Everything under the bed belonged to me—totes full of old books, cookbooks, family pictures. Things that hadn’t had any place in my life with Pedro.

“The clothes can go.” I’d been hanging onto some of the stuff I had since Pedro and I were first dating. “But I’d like to keep the books and the pictures.”

“You don’t have to get rid of everything, just the things that are holding you back.” Bibi headed to the closet. “How much plaid can one man wear? I’m dizzy looking at it.”

I laughed. “Pedro loved his plaid, his dad jeans, and his work boots.” The man was all function, no fashion.

“All of these clothes should go. If he comes back looking for them, I volunteer to give that wolf a makeover.” Bibi made a face as she pulled plaid shirt after plaid shirt off the hangers. “It looks like he’s had some of these since you moved in.”

“That assessment would be correct.” I laughed.

“I’ll have you work on your side. I encourage you to be ruthless. Anything that’s old, worn, doesn’t fit anymore—”

“Maternity.”

“No.” Bibi gasped. “Cindy! Don’t tell me you’re still wearing those clothes.”

“They’re comfy. And here.”

“That’s it. Switch sides with me. I’m making sure we get rid of anything that doesn’t make you feel like a fierce mama wolf.”

Now I was starting to panic. “Have you seen those little guys out there? I need to be able to move faster than them.”

“You can be stylish and comfortable.” She swiveled her hips, showing off her vintage velour sweatsuit, complete with a sequined Bibi on the butt. “We’ll get things that are made for your body.”

“Leave me a couple things. Delivery takes forever up here.” I laughed, but she was throwing away almost everything. It was more painful than getting rid of Pedro’s stuff. Because it wasn’t going into storage. It was going straight into big green trash bags, never to be seen again.

“Trust me.” She didn’t break her stride. “Tonight, I’ll be interviewing Logan. Reminiscent of the hot seat on The Werewives, but with our gentleman suitor. But don’t worry—once we get these new clothes for you, it will be your turn.”

“Would I be able to attend tonight?”

Bibi frowned. “I’d love to have you there, but I think this might work better one on one. I don’t want him to hold back. We need to know everything about this wolf to make sure we’re doing right by both of you.”
