“I know, but it’s just…you’re still my boss.”

“True. Take the weekend off so I can be just the man who makes you come and we’ll revisit this discussion at a later date, ok?”

“I’m sorry, Mr. Knox, but I don’t trust you to take care of Sofi for an entire weekend.”

Hunter laughed and our mouths collided into a kiss.

“That’s smart. I’m not good with kids.”

“You did a pretty good job this morning. Sofi’s happy.”

“Beginner’s luck.” But it wasn’t. Sofi was happy and safe when Hunter was around. He fed her, played with her, and that had nothing to do with luck. It was aboutfamily. “Come on, let’s see what Raoul brought for our breakfast.”

“Is that what’s in the bag?”

“Yeah. I ordered from one of my restaurants.”

“Uh, which one? Is it good?”

“It’s called Kitz and yes, Amelia, it’s good.”

“Wait, Kitz?TheKitz? The Michelin stars winning restaurant at the Bellagio?”

“That would be the one. You’ve been there?”

Kitz was the favorite place of every A-list celebrity there was. People don’t just walk from the street and eat there.

“No. It takes forever to get a reservation there and even with the more than generous salary you’re paying me, I don’t think I could afford anything on their menu.” The size of Hunter’s influence and fortune wasn’t something I could comprehend easily. “I can’t believe you own that place.”

“I do. Come on, let’s eat.”

He took the bag and went to the back terrace to put everything on the table and I followed with Sofi in my arms. Hunter ordered us Eggs Benedict and pastries. He also took out two large to-go cups of coffee and I grabbed one immediately.

“Oh, wow. This is so foamy.”

“Italian cappuccino. I hope you like it.”

“It’s amazing.” Sofi was reaching for the food, trying to get her hands on everything. “Ok, baby girl, we’ll split an éclair. Calm down.”

“Is she allowed to have chocolate.?” Hunter asked while pushing the eclairs closer to me.

“I try to keep sugar out of her diet, but everyone deserves a cheat day. Don’t worry, I’m only going to give her a little bite.”

“I’m not worried, Amelia. Actually, knowing you take care of my niece gives me peace of mind. You are very good with her.”

“You are very good with her too, Hunter. It’s easy, isn’t it?”

“I’ve only been alone with Sofi for a couple of hours and she was sleepy most of the time.”

“You’re a good uncle. I don’t care what you’re telling yourself in that pretty head of yours, but you are great. Sofi deserves that in her life, and so do you.”

“Amelia…”

I knew I was walking on dangerous territory.

“All I’m saying is maybe you’re wasting your time looking for some distant old aunt of yours to take her when you are right here.” The moment I spoke up a frown appeared on his face. “Don’t look at me like that.”

“Are you worried for your job, Amelia?”
