Chapter 15

A week later though, they're utterly silent as they look at me in my dress. I'd walked into the bridal showroom with Sophie, Charlotte, my mother, Kellie, and Ezekiel and Jeremiah's mother, Brianne, searching for a simple knee-length dress. Nothing too fancy. But then, the owner had showed me a champagne-colored dress with thin straps, a V-neck, elaborate, beautiful rose gold sequin designs covering it, with a mermaid bodice and a short train at the bottom. The moment I saw myself in the mirror, I knew it was my dress. A promise from Sophie to wear one of their dresses to the next gala, and they'd agreed to do the alterations that day. Slipping into the dress today, hair and make-up done, rose gold necklace and bracelet on, I look even more beautiful than when I first wore it. And the way my mother and theirs stares at me now, tears filling their eyes, Sophie and Charlotte looking like they're just as much on the verge of crying, makes me that much surer that I made the right choice.

"Just...beautiful," my mother finally says, then sniffles.

"Thank you." I smile. "Let's hope Jer and Zek agree."

"Oh," Brianne scoffs. "You don't need to worry about that in the least."

I look at Sophie. "Can you ask—"

She shakes her head before I even finish speaking. "I am not asking Heather another question, especially not ten minutes after the last thing you had me ask her. You let her plan the ceremony so trust that everything is taken care of."

As if just having the proof that I was pregnant had triggered it, I'd woken up every morning since nauseous as hell. I'd only gotten out of my bed for three things. To go the doctor and confirm I was indeed pregnant, head to the bridal shop to find a dress, and to pick out rings for Ezekiel and Jeremiah once we'd agreed we wanted that to be a part of the ceremony. I hadn't the energy for much else, so I'd left it all to Heather. I knew she was more than capable, but knowing all the things that can go wrong, even with a ceremony this small, I'm still wondering what's going on behind the scenes.

"Let's get you into these shoes," Charlotte says. "We only have a few more minutes."

I nod and sit so I can put on my rose gold heels, buckling the straps around my ankles. I look up when there's a knock at the door.

"Special delivery," Jackson calls out. "Well two, really."

Charlotte opens the door and sighs, "Thank God."

She takes the dress from him as he presses a kiss to her temple. Because it stormed yesterday, they weren't able to fly back until this afternoon. They only had enough time to come straight here, so Jackson had someone go to a store and get them both an outfit. Charlotte slips away to change and Jackson walks towards me with a small black box.

"From Zek and Jer," he says.

I take the box from him and get the box off the vanity to hand to him. Both of their rings are inside.

"Tell them it's too late for cold feet," I joke.

He grins. "And they told me to tell you they'd padlocked the doors so you can't get away."

I laugh and Brianne shakes her head.

"Sounds like them. Let me go make sure they look even half as nice as you. I'll see you out there, honey."

She kisses my cheek and leaves with Jackson.

Charlotte calls for Sophie's help to get her dress on, and then it's just me and my mother.

I put the box on the vanity and she links her hands with mine.

"I think you know what I mean what I say I thought this day would never come," she begins, making me chuckle because, yes, I really do know.

"I never thought I would see it either, since I was vehemently fighting to make sure it never came."

"Now that we're here, I don't think I could be happier. You're committing yourself to two wonderful men. I have a grandbaby on the way. And I'm wearing a size six dress."

I throw my head back in laughter. "I love you."

"I love you." She tilts my head down so she can kiss my forehead. "I'll go take my seat."

She leaves just as Charlotte and Sophie come out.

"It should not take that much effort to get dressed," Charlotte huffs. "If Jackson so much as mentions pregnancy to me again in the next ten years, I will strangle him."

"He might like it," Sophie snickers. "But no strangling tonight. Our hotel rooms are right next to each other, and I do not want to hear those sounds."
