“Girlfriend, we’re talking one drink. If you have a life and death reason why you shouldn’t have a drink with the 260lbs. love child of Michael B.Jordan and Jesse Williams, I’m all ears.

Otherwise, I don’t care. I will not freeze my ass off in the rain for anyone. It’s bad enough that one got me kicked out of my ride.”

I smirked and arched an eyebrow at Sarah, while Sass flipped her friend the bird.

“Fine,” my girl spat out, turned away from me, and remained completely silent for the rest of the trip to Seville while the others argued.

Look, I’m not an imbecile. I know my girl. Seeing me again like this is distressing her. But she’s not the only one who was hurt by our separation, and I’ll be damned if she forgets that.

“You look beautiful, Sarah.”

My girl has always been beautiful to me, but the longer haircut made her look softer, more feminine. I also liked that she put on some curves since I’ve seen her last.

We’re sitting at a local pub with a pint of beer between us. People have been giving us looks for the past hour because even with the extra weight, I was still twice her size.

“How have you been?” I asked gently.

It didn’t surprise me when my question was met with silence. I haven’t seen Sarah in over four years. Not since I left Elite Prep.

This didn’t mean I didn’t keep up with the comings and goings in her life, however.

After we graduated from the Academy, the Guild sent her to MIT to get her master’s degree in computer science.

They put her on indefinite leave, meaning she was on a long-term mission with deep cover, and her job at MIT was to gain knowledge, check out the school’s research in her field of expertise, and flag those that could interest the Guild.

I found this extremely ironic, considering she will probably use those additional abilities to take them down. But that was Colin Baxter for you. The man thought he was invincible.

According to Gabe, my girl didn’t mind the change in scenery in the least.

Then again, the moron wouldn’t know joy if it hit him in the face. I don’t know what the hell I was thinking, asking him to look after my girl.

When I asked him how she was, all he could say was, “She’s fine. She’s surrounded by brilliant minds, and she’s a better hacker now than she was before.”

I grabbed her hand and turned it around to see the Roman numerals on her knuckles.

“Now, you ask me. Now?” she gritted out before pulling her hand away.

Sarah didn’t deal well with emotions. They scared her, so she ran. I chased after her because I couldn’t let her go. Then Elise got kidnapped, and everything changed.

“Sarah,” I began, but she interrupted me.

“How is your sister?”

“Elise is doing well. She’s going to USD and studying criminology. Something about fighting crimes and rescuing the world,” I told her with a tender smile.

My sister was a fighter. After they rescued her from her kidnappers, she was in such pitiful shape, we almost lost her.

The doctors hadn’t been optimistic about her status. They told me that even though she was showing signs of physical recovery, she would need long-term counseling for the multiple traumas she suffered.

But they didn’t know my sister. Elise fought against the pain and agony in her body to identify William Winthrop as the leader of the kidnapping ring. She testified against him and helped put him in jail.

“All that’s missing is the cape,” Sarah said dryly.

“I was thinking of buying her one for Christmas,” I chuckled.

Elise would love it too. My sister had kept her sense of humor through all of it. I didn’t know how she did it. I lost mine when I found out she was missing.
