“Because the first question people ask when they meet someone is, what do you do in life? I don’t want to lie to them. I do it enough as it is with people I love.”

“I’m sorry, Sarah,” I sighed. I knew she struggled with lying to the girls.

The thing about a covert mission is, the longer the game, the bigger the hurt. She’s been at this one for years now, so the probability of this ending well was almost nil.

“Mace and Gabriel want to take MMG public next year. Gabe thinks we can make close to 300million by going that route.”

“He told me. Are you ready?”

“Yeah, I am.” Sarah looked at me strangely. “When did you speak with Gabe?”

Fuck, that wasn’t supposed to come out.

“Last week.”

“Do you talk to him often?” I stared at her intensely.

“Now and then. Mostly about business… and you.”

“And Mace?” I remained silent because I wasn’t a complete idiot, although you wouldn’t know it right now.

“I guess I’m the only one you didn’t keep in touch with,” she stated coldly.

“It’s not like that,” I began.

“You know what? Screw this.” She got up, put some cash on the table and hurried out of there.

“Sarah, come back here.”

“Screw you,” she spat out, and walked away from me.

I followed. I would always follow this girl. There will never be a time I won’t.

Sarah was about to turn into an alley when I grabbed her by the elbow, lifted her into my arms like she was a doll, put my lips on hers and kissed her like I was drowning.

I pushed my tongue inside her mouth and began a familiar back-and-forth movement.

She moaned, wrapped her legs around me and returned the kiss with the same intensity.

I was almost blinded by the explosive chemistry between our bodies. We kissed and kissed, unaware of our surroundings, until my body sensed danger and tightened.

“Mira lo que temenos aquí,” Well, look what we have here, an amused voice said.

I wished I had superpowers. I could telepathically explain to this moron that now wasn’t a good time to push me and he would move on. Sadly, I didn’t, so I used my mouth instead.

“Tienes que darte la vuelta y irte, amigo mío,” You need to turn around and leave, my friend, I growled warningly and slowly released my girl to the ground.

The man pulled out a black retractable knife. “¿ Qué tal si me das tu dinero ?” How about you give me your money?

Great. Just great. I finally see the love of my life after four years, and we’re about to get mugged by three fools with a tiny knife.

Me, a Navy Seal, and her, the supercharged equivalent of la femme Nikita.

“Eric, don’t. You’re going to hurt him,” my girl said, making the stranger scoff.

“I’m the one with the knife, lady. And we’re three against one,” he added as two other guys marched toward us and firmly stood by the stranger.

“I’m trying to help you here, asshole. He doesn’t need a knife to hurt all of you,” she warned them to defuse the situation before everything went to hell.
