I could have told her she was wasting her breath, but didn’t. Instead, I readied for the fight by rotating my shoulders. These boys needed a lesson, and I was just the right guy to give it to them.

Oh, don’t worry, I’m just going to play with them a little. No harm, I swear.

“Shut up, bitch,” the leader shouted, making my girl sigh.

You know what? Forget what I just said. These boys are going to hurt.

“Are you calling my woman a bitch?”

“I do not need you to fight my battle for me,” Sarah asserted calmly.

“Yes, I did, you fucking mongrel,” the man spat out and lunged at me.

I doubled down on the hurt part, grabbed his arms with one arm, and used the other to hit the man’s Adam’s apple with an open hand strike, thus rendering him unconscious instead of killing him. I then kicked the knife away from them.

His two friends charged me at the same time, proving to everyone that too much testosterone decreases brain activity.

“Will you stop? You can be court-martialed for this, you moron,” my girl growled as she stood with her back against the wall and her arms crossed over her chest.

“Who’s going to tell? Them?” I told her as I held one man under my armpit and kicked the other one in the stomach.

The man backed away, stunned. While he did so, the poor guy in a head lock got his nose broken in two separate places, and Sarah winced in sympathy.

I always knew she was a bleeding heart. My girl played tough, but she was a marshmallow inside.

The man howled in pain and held his nose in a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding.

His friend had the brilliant idea of going after my girl and using her as leverage. And that, ladies and gentlemen, was when the shit hit the fan.

“Eric,” she warned me when I grew in size.

“Shut up, woman,” the man screamed and pulled out a knife. He was about to put it against her throat when I grabbed his head and slammed it hard against the wall of the building.

“What is that?” she screamed.

“What is what?”

“I can take care of myself, you stupid goof.”

Was she mad at me for defending her? Really????

“I already know this, Sarah, but no one touches my woman and gets away with it,” I declared as I deflected a punch from the third assailant while his friend was being pummeled.

“Could you stop calling me your woman? We’re not in the Stone Age anymore, Fred Flintstone.”

I grabbed the guy’s wrist and twisted it hard until the latter screamed in pain.

“Eric Winslow, are you even listening to what I’m saying?”

No, I wasn’t. I was ignoring her because this had to be the stupidest argument we’ve ever had.

“Why are you not paying attention to what I’m saying?”

I stopped punching the guy and pushed him face first against the wall before looking her way.

“Are you talking to me?” I taunted. To make sure she got angrier, I said, “By the way, I’ve missed kissing you terribly.”

What? You didn’t think I forgot about that little threat she made in the car, did you? Let’s see how she liked it when someone pissed her off for a change.
