Gabe turned on his supercomputer and type in some commands before a bunch of codes appeared on the screen.

I took a seat in his beanbag, got comfortable, and grabbed my phone because this could take a while.

I was about to answer a text from a pretty girl I was flirting with at school when Gabe lost it and began swearing.

“Shit.”

“What’s wrong?” I asked, as he furiously typed on his keyboard. He’d been at it for half an hour now.

“The fucker just got through the firewalls of level two and three like they weren’t there.”

I got up to peek over my friend’s shoulder, only to remember I don’t speak nerd.

“How the hell can you even tell?”

“I’m piggybacking his feed.”

“And this lets you see what he’s doing?”

“Yes.”

“Isn’t this dangerous? What if whoever is behind this knows you’re spying on him?”

“Normally, I’d say yes.”

“But?”

“He’s either incompetent or a newbie. My money’s on the latter, considering the level of expertise it would take to even get this far.”

“You lost me, Gabe.”

“The guy is good. He rerouted his IP address through several proxy servers, which made it almost impossible to locate him.”

“And yet, you were able to do what, exactly?”

“There is a flaw in his programming. I uncovered his backdoor and blew it wide open.”

Gabe must have seen the WTF look on my face because the next thing I know, he was typing in some commands, and the two of us watched as our screen blinked and three more appeared.

“Is that what I think it is?”

“Yep. That belongs to him. We’re seeing what he’s doing in real time.”

“Oh, fuck. This isn’t going to come back and bite you in the ass, is it?”

“No.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yeah, I’m sure. Simmer down, Mom.” I flipped him off and watch the monitor, intrigued.

Gabe came alive again when we watched the mouse click on a file called Mekong, and he furiously typed on his keyboard.

“What are you doing?”

“I’m sending a message to the hacker.”

“What? Why?”
