“How did he even know where you live?”

I scoffed. “Probably from one of his minions. You know, when we were on the island, he never hid the fact that he wanted a simple life. Now he has a driver and a housekeeper. And if he lied about that, what else did he lie about?”

“Having a housekeeper isn’t a criminal offense.”

“No, but stealing someone’s apartment is!”

“Okay, I’m going to need more information.”

“And then he had the nerve to join me in the shower!”

“Is this before or after he stole someone’s apartment?”

I spun around, shoving my fingers through my hair in frustration. “And he had the nerve to tell me that it wasn’t a big deal that his housekeeper saw me half naked.”

“I’m getting the feeling there’s a lot that I’m missing.”

“And he’s coming back here tonight, tohisapartment!”

“Ah,” she nodded. “So, he stole your apartment.”

I sank down on the couch, sucking my Caramel Ribbon Crunch hard. Damn, it was good, but I wasn’t sure it could fix all the shit that happened last night.

“Maybe slow down. You’re going to give yourself—”

I pinched the bridge of my nose, grimacing as the icy goodness hit me hard.

“Brain freeze,” she finished, snatching the cup out of my hands.

“Why does everything have to be so hard?” I groaned, sinking further into the couch.

“Well, I could be wrong on this, so correct me if I am, but perhaps you two should sit down and talk.”

“I tried to talk to him, but he ignored me the whole time.”

“I’m sure he didn’t ignore you.”

I glared at her. “He was on his phone the whole time, completely ignoring everything I said. I told him I was coming back here last night and he didn’t hear. Then he got pissed at me for not being at his apartment. And this—” I said, shoving my ring in her face, “was picked out by his executive assistant! It’s like everything that happened on the island was with a different man.”

“Well, he was a different man,” she said, arguing for him.

“I thought you were supposed to be on my side.”

“I am, but think about it, you changed when you came back. You stepped back into your life and became the woman you were supposed to be. So did he, whether you like it or not.”

“So, what am I supposed to do now?” I asked sadly. “I don’t think I can live with the man he is now, but I don’t really have a choice either. And I’m afraid…” I sucked in a breath, admitting my worst fears out loud. “I’m afraid that I’ll come to hate the man I fell in love with. I bottled up all those memories to keep with me through the next five years, but what if they’re tainted now?”

“You guys just need to find a new way to live together. Face it, you’re not on the island anymore. That was a great moment in time, but you’re in a new reality now. Just be happy you’re with a man you know you already love.”

Sighing, I admitted the truth. “He doesn’t notice me anymore. On the island, he was always watching me. All I had to do was say one thing and he gave me all his attention. How am I supposed to make this work when he’s so distracted?”

She smirked at me. “I think you’ll have to make him see you.”
