Swallowing some emotion, Braden looks down at Hunter again. “Well, I promise to do my best to be a good influence. Most of the time.”
We all laugh at that.
Maia walks over and bumps his arm with her elbow. “Ready to be godparents together?”
Braden smiles. “Well, we’refinallyfiguring out this parenting thing. Might as well add godparents to the list, too.”
Hunter rustles again and Braden brings him back to me.
I gently rock him back and forth, but it’s useless. Harper screeches after being told she can’t touch something, then Hunter screams his raspy scream. This is our life now. Guess it’s a good thing I don’t mind a little chaos.
“Here we are,” Nick says, swinging the door open. “Welcome home, buddy.” Hunter is fast asleep in his car seat, but the second I set it down, his little eyes flash open, then his fists ball up and the screaming starts.
Nick locks the door and sets our things to the side as I bend down and pull Hunter from his car seat.
Nick grabs some pillows and makes a nest in the corner of the couch for me. Hunter starts rooting around for my boob, so as soon as I’m settled on the couch, I lift my shirt up—who cares about bras at this point?—and start nursing him. His happy little glugs melt my soul.
Nick sits down next to me and throws his arm over the back of the couch. Shifting slightly, I lean against him as Hunter continues to nurse. Nick puts the TV on, and we snuggle on the couch together like a perfect little family.
