I rub my fingers over my eyes and close my textbook. I’ve been studying for this test for two days and I still don’t feel fully prepared. But I need a mental break. And coffee. I’m considering vacating my perfect spot in the library to get some when I see something I need more. A sexy man.

“Hey, babe.” Vince leans down and kisses me, then places a coffee in my hand. “Thought you might need this.”

“Mm. Not as much as I need you.” I give him another kiss, then move my books so he can sit next to me.

“Oh, by the way, I made reservations for our anniversary.”

“Oh, really? At our special place?”

He presses his lips into my neck. “Where else? I mean, last year worked out so well for us.”

I glance down at the ring on my finger. “Yes, it did.”

Then I go a little crazy, climb on his lap, and start kissing the hell out of him.

“Well, someone’s excited.”

“You have that effect on me. Now quiet.” I attack his lips again.

Are we currently in the college library? Yes. Are there plenty of people walking by and probably getting a show? Also, yes. Do I care? Nope.

“Christ, get a room. Seriously, you have your own apartment. Save it for later,” Braden says in disgust as he drops into a nearby chair.

Attempting not to be insensitive, I climb off Vince’s lap. “Hey.”

Braden rolls his eyes and smiles. “Hi. I brought lunch.” He sets three subs down on the table. “Although, maybe you already ate,” he teases, making Vince laugh loudly.

I smack Vince’s chest as he stands up and kisses my cheek. “I gotta get to my next class, anyway.” He grabs a sub and nods at Braden. “Thanks for lunch.”

“No problem. Later.”

Vince gives a wave as he walks away.

I reach over and grab a sub, noticing he got my favorite—turkey on whole wheat with mayo, tomato, avocado, and bacon. “Thanks for this,” I say, lifting the sub.

“No problem. So, dare I ask what the makeout session in the library was about? Or did you just not feel like taking it to the car?”

“Ha, very funny. I know I don’t usually do that, but he was telling me about the date he has planned for our anniversary, and I got a little… excited.”

“Horny,” he says in a cough.

“Don’t make it weird,” I say with a scowl.

“Look, it’s always going to be a little weird—well, maybe not always. I think that’ll probably fade. But right now, there’s still some awkwardness about it all, so I figure I might as well lean into the jokes.”

“Fair enough. So, what about you? Any big plans for Valentine’s Day? Phone date with your girl?”

“Maybe.” He tries to play it cool, but his cheeks redden slightly.

“You’re so into her. Any plans on meeting in person yet?” I ask playfully.

He gives me a devilish smirk. “Yeah, I thought maybe I’d bring her to your wedding. Any idea when that’ll be?”

I reach over and give his arm a shove. “Shut up. We haven’t figured that out yet. And by the way, I doubt you’d want to meet her for the first time at your ex’s wedding.”

“Yeah, I definitely want it to be as low pressure as possible at this point. Even though the pressure builds as we get closer. It makes me nervous sometimes. Can’t help but wonder if it’s easier over the phone.”
