She stifles a laugh. “Well, not to give you blue balls, but I should go. I need to study a bit more and get some rest.”
“I had a lot of fun tonight. Go ahead and get some rest.”
“Thanks. And hey…”
“Yeah?”
“Tonight was my best Valentine’s ever. Thank you. We weren’t even in person, but you made me feel incredibly special.”
“Because you are. Have a good night, Firecracker.”
“Bye, Jack.”
I hang up and stare at the ceiling. We crossed a line tonight. Not like we haven’t been crossing emotional lines left and right, but this time we let each other in in a different way. It’s scary. The deeper I get with her, I want to meet her, see her, feel her. It’s torture waiting, but I keep telling myself it’ll be worth it. And in my heart, I know it would be. But in my gut, something tells me it won’t be as easy as I want it to be.
She’s worth it. We are.
I just hope she feels the same way.
