Freaking Crazy

“Thisone?”mymomasks, holding up some cream-colored tulle.

“No, it’s supposed to be pink, purple, and blue rainbow. Is it maybe at the bottom of that same box? Why did I order a bunch of toddler party stuff with all my wedding stuff?” I groan.

“It probably saved you plenty on shipping. It’s fine. We’ll find it. It has to be here somewhere, right?” Mom says.

Leigh and Jenna both look over at me. “We’ve got this covered,” Leigh assures me, swaying with Hunter in a wrap on her chest.

“I know. It’s not even a big deal. I’m sorry. I’m just stressed. I don’t know why I thought planning a wedding during my second semester of college was a good idea. I wasn’t expecting it to be this difficult. And now Harper’s party stuff, which I totally dropped the ball on.”

“You didn’t drop the ball,” Jenna says. “We just need to look some more.”

Mom crosses the spare bedroom of the farmhouse and runs her hands down my arms. “Are you okay?”

I let out a sigh and sit down. “Yes. Just overwhelmed. I want Harper’s party to be great. And I want the wedding to be perfect, but it seems like every single day something new pops up that I didn’t think about.”

Mom sits down next to me and hands me a water bottle as Jenna and Leigh come to stand in front of us. “It’s a lot. I remember my wedding to your dad. Let’s just say there’s a reason James and I had a barbeque after getting married at the courthouse. But we’re all here to help.”

“Yeah,” Leigh says. “I know it seems overwhelming, but you’ve got most of it taken care of. Take a break for the next couple of days and focus on Harper’s party. We can start tackling the wedding again after that.”

“We?” I ask with a smile.

“Always we.” She winks at me.

“All I know is, I’m hiring a wedding planner when I get married,” Jenna says.

Mom, Leigh, and I turn to look at her.

“Something you want to share with the class?” Mom asks.

“I mean someday,” she croaks.

Leigh and I exchange a glance. It’spossibleBrett has discussed engagement rings for Jenna with us. But I’m keeping that stuffed deep inside. Whenever he’s ready to ask her, I want her to be surprised.

“Right. Well, I’m glad we’re doing so much ourselves, even if it is a little stressful. By the way, thank you for letting me store everything here, helping me figure out what to order.” I look at my mom, who smiles back at me.

She pats my leg and stands up, offering her hands to me. “No problem. I figured it was the least I could do since your dad and Hank insisted on makingallthe food.”

“Yeah, they’re crazy. But I’m grateful for it.”

“I’ve got it!” Leigh says, pulling out a box that had been shoved to the side. “Let’s decorate.”

We all head downstairs with piles of decorations in our arms.

I can’t believe in just two months we’ll be at Noah and Marie’s decorating for my wedding.

Talk about freaking crazy.
