She gives me a thoughtful nod, then abruptly jumps up, shouting, “Oh, I forgot about all the stuff in the top of my closet.”
With a laugh and an eye roll, I grab one more thing to put in the box right as my phone goes off. I grab it and see a text from Nick.
Nick: It sucks Braden won’t be at prom.
Me: I agree. It feels weird to go without him.
Nick: Maybe we should do something about that.
Me: What do you have in mind?
My phone rings and I’m greeted with Nick’s troublemaking voice. As he tells me his idea, I can’t help but smile. Maybe I am waiting to deal with some of the hard things, but feeling like it’s the five of us again is more important to me than anything else. The rest will come in time.
