ChapterOne

Hunter

I duck under the Beachside Café’s awning, trying my hardest to stay out of the rain. I slip inside the café and shake myself off before I look around the place. I’m the only customer here which makes sense since there’s a tropical storm raging outside. Everyone else was smart and found shelter before the storm hit. I thought that I could make it off the island and back to Charleston before it started but I misjudged how soon the storm would hit.

The Beachside Café is right on the beach with a pier overlooking the water. It’s painted in bright neon greens and blues. The booths lining the walls are red and the tables and chairs are painted a vibrant purple. The place looks clean and well taken care of. All of the appliances behind the counter are clean and look pretty new. I wonder when this place opened.

I live in Charleston where I own and run four restaurants. I went to culinary school after high school but my passion was always with creating and designing successful restaurants rather than coming up with new culinary masterpieces. I do know my way around a kitchen though and that has come in handy from time to time.

I only came to Kiawah Island to see if there was any room for another restaurant. I’d already researched the Island before I came and I know that the population is smaller than I would typically like but with the tourist season I think that it would still be a good place for one of my restaurants.

I need to get back to my car but the rain is coming down too hard out there. It was so bad that I could barely see a foot in front of me when I made my way down the boardwalk and into the Beachside Café. I look around the café again for someone who works here. I know that someone has to still be here since the lights are on and the door was unlocked.

I was only supposed to be on the island for one day but if the storm keeps up like this, then I’m going to be stuck here for a couple of days at least. If there’s flooding then I’ll be here even longer. I sigh as I pull my phone out and type out a quick message to my assistant letting her know that the restaurant managers will need to be in charge until I make it back.

I walk further into the café and take a seat at the counter. There’s a movement in the back and I call out when the sound gets closer.

“Hello?”

There’s a loud clanking like something was dropped and then steps come closer. The door swings open and out steps the most beautiful creature that I have ever seen. For a second, I wonder if she’s a mermaid that washed up on shore because she looks like a curvier version of Ariel from The Little Mermaid. Her hair is tied back with only a few wavy strands hanging down around her face. She pushes them back behind her ear as her large green eyes meet mine.

My heart stops in my chest before it trips over itself as it starts to race out of control. She’s gorgeous. As she gets closer, I notice that her cheeks are flushed and she has a smattering of freckles all over her round face. Her full red lips pull up at the corners into a polite smile when she sees me.

I’ve spent enough time in restaurants to recognize a chef when I see one. She’s wearing an apron over a blue t-shirt and black jeans. She has a pair of chef’s clogs on and I watch as she shifts from foot to foot.

“Hey, welcome. Sorry, I didn’t think anyone would be out in this storm. We’re actually closing down but I can make you something if you’re hungry.”

She walks closer to me, plucking a menu out and sliding it across the counter to me. I don’t want to take my eyes off of her. I know it’s irrational, but what if I look away and she disappears. I want this girl to be in my life forever. She’s going to be my wife one day soon, I can feel it. As I continue to stare at her though, I realize that she doesn’t seem to be on the same page as me. She’s looking at me like I’m just another customer and not her everything.

Does she not feel what I’m feeling? We’re meant to be, I can feel it with every fiber of my being. How can she not be feeling this too? It’s the strongest feeling that I’ve ever had in my life. I always trust my gut and my gut is telling me that this girl is my future.

“What would you recommend?” I ask her.

“Our special today is stuffed flounder served with vegetable du jour. There are also oysters, both raw and charbroiled.” She pulls out a pad and a pen from behind the counter as she tells me the specials. My eyes stay locked, tracking her every movement.

“I’ll take the stuffed flounder.” I say, sliding the menu back to her.

She scribbles my order down on her pad and nods before she heads into the back. The door swings shut behind her and I instantly feel empty without her in my sight. There’s a large window separating the kitchen from the dining area, but I sat on the edge of the counter and I can’t see her from here. I get up and move down so that I’m right in front of the window and I can see my girl as she moves efficiently around the kitchen.

She obviously knows what she’s doing and I watch as she grabs a knife. She turns around then and I stare at her back as she chops something at the counter. My eyes trail over her curves as she moves confidently around the kitchen. She’s rounded in just the right places and my dick hardens as I watch her lush ass sway back and forth as she works.

She works fast, that or I lost track of time as I watched her, but before I know it, she’s pushing back through the door and placing my food in front of me.

“Can I get you something to drink?” She asks as she passes me some wrapped silverware.
