My smile widens when I see Ava and Harris kiss for the first time as husband and wife. Then I sigh, remembering that same moment for Mason and me, sand between our toes and the Bermuda sun shining down on us.

I feel like that sun never stopped shining down on us.

Our marriage isn’t perfect. It’s not even easy. But I always feel like there’s this special light beaming down on us even in the darkest times—warming us, strengthening us as a couple.

Even when the Navy pulls us to opposite sides of the world, we’re still together because the light of love connects us, despite the miles.

I feel my usual rush of emotions as the crowd applauds, and two tears drop unceremoniously from my eyes.

My daughter brushes them away with her tiny fingertips.

“Happy tears,” she tells me because she’s seen them before—anytime Mason comes home from a deployment.

When I walk to the aisle to be escorted by Mason, he takes Astrid from my arms and whispers in her ear, “Two scoops for the perfect flower girl.”

Then, as I take his other arm, he leans over as we walk and says, “And two scoops for you if you stop saying, ‘I told you so.’”

I laugh.“I can’t help it.I’m so good at this matchmaking thing.”

“Relentless is more the word for it.But now, with everyone around you paired off, maybe you can give it a rest?”

I grin.“I don’t know about that.Harris tells me that his sisters are single.”

I think my husband groans in response, but I can’t quite hear it as we step outside the stately old church and the bells begin to ring in celebration of Harris and Ava’s marriage.

Despite the snow on the ground, I feel the warmth of the sun shining down on my family as we descend the stairs.

And it shines on them, the new couple who were destined to be together… with a little help from a friend.
