CHAPTERTWELVE

Della dropped her purse onto the floor.

The honeymoon villa was spectacular. With the living area flowing seamlessly onto the sundeck, the infinity pool seemed part of the interior space. The teak terrace held a rocking love seat, a fire pit, and a Jacuzzi.

The red rose petals scattered across the pristine white bedding stood out against the turquoise and white color scheme.

Behind her, Bex chatted with the butler assigned to their suite, but the gentle shoosh of the waves and the delicate fragrance of exotic flowers drifting in on a soft breeze lulled her. Her body longed to collapse on that fluffy comforter.

A moment later, the door closed, and a hand cupped her elbow. The salt water and frangipani scents got replaced by the clean cotton of the man who’d become so dear to her. “You look like you’re going to fall asleep standing up. Go on and take the bed.”

“No, no. It’s your room.”

“Laki said he’ll let us know if anyone cancels. In the meantime, I’ll take the hammock on the deck.”

“Oh, my God. Van Claybourne’s not sleeping on the porch of his honeymoon suite.”

He leaned in close, his breath tickling her ear. “If I thought you could keep your hands off me, I’d say we could share the bed.”

“Oh, shut up.” She gave him a gentle shove. “I don’t even know if we had sex.”

He turned away, heading into the bathroom.

She followed him into the cool stone, open-air space. “You might’ve been such a dud in bed that I fell asleep before we did the dirty.”

He chuckled. “More likely I made you come so hard you passed out.”

“Well, I do like that scenario better.” She waited patiently while he washed his hands and face. “You know we have to talk about it at some point, right?”

He dried himself with a hand towel. “Della, if I don’t remember anything, I seriously doubt we had sex.”

“It could have happened.”

“Well, I looked for a condom but didn’t see any.”

Oh, thank God. That was the missing piece of information. “We were too drunk to think about protection, but the good news is that I didn’t have any evidence of sex.”

It took him a moment, but he got it. “Well, there you go. We didn’t do the ‘dirty.’”

“So, now we can stop being weird around each other.”

“Where’s the fun in that?” He reached for the top button of his jeans. “I’m going to change and go for a swim.”

“Okay. I’ll just…I’m going to nap.” She hurried back to the bedroom to find Laki had set her suitcase on a valet stand and unpacked her clothes.

“I’m coming out now,” Bex called.

“Okay?” Why the announcement—

Oh. He came out sporting nothing but a semi.

“Bex. What’re you doing?”

He chuckled. “There’s a swimming pool in my living room. I’m getting in it.” Barely giving her a moment to appreciate all those muscles and that smooth, tan skin, he walked right into the water.

She stood there, listening to his gentle splashes. A moment later, he issued a serene, “Ah.”

“I’m over here closing my eyes for a little bit. You might want to keep it down.” He floated on his back, his semi-hard cock right above the water line. “Oh, my God. You’ve got to be kidding me.”
