“I don’t know. Because you’re avoiding the real problems?”

“Della, if I were broken-hearted about Mary, I’d be writing a song right now, but for the first time in my life, I don’t need to write anything down. I don’t need to work out my feelings because I’m actually clear on what I feel.”

“And what do you feel?”

“Della, I’m crazy about you. And I don’t care if I haven’t known you long enough, or if I just got out of a relationship. The only thing that matters is that I didn’t know what love was until I met you.”

The ground opened beneath her feet. Only, instead of plunging into the abyss, she found she had wings. She was soaring. “You love me?”

“I know it’s crazy. I know on the outside it doesn’t make sense. But I do know what’s happening here”—he patted his heart—“is the only thing that matters.” He cupped her elbows. “Yes, Della Swanson. I love you.”

“I love you, too.”

“Oh, thank Christ.” Cupping her cheeks, he pressed those full, sexy lips to hers and gave her a kiss that melted her bones.

She knew every lyric this man had ever written. His catalog of songs had taken her around the emotional globe, but the feelings this kiss aroused were brand new to her. It was as if together, they’d created something new, something richer…something magical.

Love, desire, yearning…everything just crashed over her.

Laughing, she pulled her mouth away, leaving their foreheads touching.

“What’s so funny?”

“Your porn ‘stache tickles. And it makes me feel like I’m kissing someone else.”

He reached for her hand and led the way out. “Let’s pick up your clothes and go back to the room. I have to peel this off, so you know exactly who you’re kissing.”

Fifteen minutes later, Bex flung the door open and practically shoved her inside. His big hands on her ass, he lifted her, pressing her against the wall. She dropped the bags and wrapped her arms and legs around him.

His scent drove her wild, and the way he kissed—like he needed to devour her whole—took her to a place she’d never been before. A place of heat and desire, a place that promised bliss.

He bent his knees, surging up between her legs, slotting his hard cock into the place she needed him most. She let out a gasp, clinging to him, afraid to believe it was real. Afraid once they broke the sexual tension, he’d wake up and realize she was nothing but a rebound after all.

Because now that she’d had a glimpse of something this perfect, she didn’t know how she’d survive the loss.

“Hey.” He lowered her to the floor, running his fingers through her hair with a firm tug. “Where’d you go?”

“What? I’m right here.” She tried to pull him back.

But he shook his head. “Don’t do that. That’s not what we are. We talk to each other.”

What could she say to that? He was absolutely right. And that’s how she wanted them to be. She needed it. “I just don’t want you to regret this.”

“I said—”

“Yeah, I heard you. But that’s not what I’m talking about. We have chemistry. We’re attracted to each other, but once we get the sex over with, I don’t want you to realize that what you really need is time to come to terms with a life without Mary.”

“Get it over with? The way I want you—a lifetime together won’t be enough. Della, I’ve never wanted anyone the way I want you, and if that makes me a piece of shit after standing at the altar forty-eight hours ago, then I’ll own it. But I don’t miss Mary. She’s not even on my mind. We never had those kinds of feelings, and I can guarantee she’s not nursing a broken heart right now. I know I said I didn’t want you to be my rebound, but that was before I had time to think, to see things clearly.”

But was he thinking with his heart or his dick? She trembled with the uncertainty.

Intentions clear, he prowled toward her. “And right now? I’m not thinking about the band, and I’m definitely not missing a relationship that was little more than friendship. So, unless you don’t want this, I’d suggest you take off that…” He flicked a hand at her coverup. “Thing that’s keeping me from getting my hands all over you.”

Desire flashed through her, and she reached down to gather the fabric of the white eyelet dress. Giving him a sultry look, she slowly lifted it, swaying her hips, and pulling it over her head. Knowing that she was going to do this—gamble her heart for the hope of having all her dreams come true—she sent it flying.

But even though this bikini was built to showcase a body like hers, his gaze never left hers. “You make me feel alive.” Intensity raged like a wildfire in his eyes. “All my life I’ve been part of a machine—my family, my road crew, our handlers—but you make me feel like myself for the first time.”

When her hands went behind her back to unclasp the top, he looked barely unleashed, like a lion waiting to pounce.
