I groaninto the pillow as I hear my phone ring on the bedside table next to us.

“Do me a favor and throw that out a window.”

Ella giggles, draped naked across my back, her nipples delectably hard against my skin. She grins against me, kissing my back.

“You’ve been playing hooky from work for an entire day. Itmightbe important.”

I grunt.

“What if it’s the police, looking for you? Maybe Lewis filed a missing person’s report.”

I chuckle deeply. The phone keeps ringing.

Goddamnit.

With a groan, I roll, making her giggle and shriek as she topples into the bed. I roll on top of her, growling as I pin her to the sheets and lower my mouth to hers.

And then down to one of those very tempting nipples. Ella shrieks in protest, but then moans softly when my tongue swirls over the hard little button.

My phonekeepsbloody ringing. I growl as I roll away from her to sit on the edge of the bed. I grunt as I feel Ella’s weight shift behind me as she slides off the other end of the mattress to pad into the bathroom. Then I grab the phone and answer without even looking at it.

“This better be good.”

“We need to talk.”

I stiffen, the smile vanishing from my face, my mood darkening instantly.

It’s Oliver.

“No, I don’t think that’ll be necessary,” I say thinly. “I received the contract from your lawyers.”

I smirk, allowing myself to soak in the triumph after receiving Oliver’s flag of surrender yesterday. He’s selling the shares back, along with the ones he snapped up from Alfred Luz and Helena Nixon. Doing so removes him from the board and drops this entire campaign against me.

Also, he’s out of the hospital and healing from his wounds. Not that I give a single fuck.

“Knock ten percent off that ridiculous asking price,” I mutter. “Andthenwe can talk.”

He sighs.

“Well, lovely chat, Prince,” I spit. “Let’s—”

“I’m not talking about the bloody contract. I’m talking you and me! What the fuck happened to us, Ransom?”

He sighs deeply.

“Look, I’m dropping the whole thing. It was impulsive and over the line to come at you that hard anyway. It’s just… Christ. What is it with the two of us? Noel, I look back to those times when we would all laugh together, having a pint at the Red Dragon, or getting in the ring together to knock off some steam. How thefuckdid we get—”

“I don’t know, Prince,” I hiss thinly. “Why don’t we ask the ghosts of the women you—”

“Ohenough!!” He roars suddenly, taking me by surprise. “Fuckingenough, Noel!” He rasps. “I didnotfucking kill anyone!”

“They didn’t set themselves on fire,” I spit.

“Is this what you want for our lives, from now until we fucking die!? Just pointing fingers and knives at each other, screaming accusations until we fall over dead?”

My lip thin.
