Ella swallows, and I hate the flicker of fear I see on her face when I mention Oliver coming here. I know now that she took it upon herself to go find Adrian, and Celeste, the other night. And Iknowthat whatever lingering flickers of doubt she still kept hidden inside about my involvement with the fires is gone now.
I can feel that even in the way she kisses me with just a bit more release. More submission.
More trust.
But if I’m officially off her suspect lists, it only leaves one name—the only one that’s onmylist, as well. And I’ve just invited him into our home.
“Liam andseveralof his men will be on-hand and ready to take Oliver down,” I growl. “I don’t know what game he’s trying to play. But this ends tomorrow, I promise.”
She swallows, nodding as she turns back to the mirror and reaches for her toothbrush.
“I’ll actually be gone tomorrow night anyway. So I’ll be out of the way.”
My jaw grits as I turn, my eyes snapping to hers.
“You’ll be gonewhere, exactly?”
“Dinner.”
My brow arches as I bristle.
“Dinner withwhom.”
Ella turns, her brow furrowing as she juts her chin like she’s preparing to make a stand.
“Jacob Prince.”
Anger flashes hot across my eyes for a second. Then it cools to a tepid scowl.
“That’s out of the question—”
“Yeah, we’re not going to communicate like that anymore,” she snaps. “I’m not your prisoner.”
My mouth thins.
“Was being naked when you dropped this on me part of the strategy? To disarm me?”
She rolls her eyes, biting her lip as she steps closer to me and leans her naked hip against the marble counter. She goes up on tiptoes, kissing my cheek.
Damnher ability to shatter my armor and resolves.
“Noel, I’m still here, aren’t I? I mean, it’s not like the trust money really matters anymore.”
I frown. “Meaning?”
She eyes me coolly.
“Leo?” she says softly.
I make a note to tear Adrian a new one for that big mouth of his.
“I’m not sure I know what you mean.”
She bites a grin as she leans up to kiss me again.
“Thank you, Noel,” she whispers.
My lips curl slightly.
