The edge in my voice clues her in.

“Okay, I got it. I’m just teasing you, El.”

I smile wryly. “I know and thank you. I need it sometimes. I’m just…” air blows through my lips. “I’m just figuring a lot out.”

“Welcome to men and relationships,” she sighs. “Well look, do you need anything? If you do, will I even be allowed over the drawbridge to his castle to bring them to you?”

I grin. “I’m sure I can make that happen if I need anything.”

My brows furrow.

“Did I…” my lips twist at the vague memory. “Did I actually see youhughim the other night?”

She laughs quietly.

“Yeah, I guess you did.” She sighs. “Look, he’s an arrogant prick. But I see the power he has with you. Notoveryou. But… there’s a way he has with you. Like he’s able to… I dunno.”

See inside of me. Read my thoughts. Control me, sinfully and deliciously.

“He calms you, in a way. I think it’s why I called him, honestly.”

Without warning, or a knock, my bedroom door opens.

Speak of the fucking devil…

Noel’s suit-clad frame fills the doorway, his eyes raking over me until they lock with mine.

“Harry, I need to go,” I blurt quickly. “Talk soon?”

“Yeah, call me if you need—”

I end the call quickly, placing the phone face-down in my lap. Noel steps in the room, his eyes never leaving mine as he shuts the doors behind him with a resounding click. I shiver, suddenly reminded that I’m actually still naked, under just a sheet.

“How’s Estella?”

My pulse skips, my face paling before I can stop it.

He smiles darkly.

“You didn’t really think I wouldn’t find that out, did you?”

My lips purse.

“I want to know who gave you a million pounds at the age of eighteen.”

I swallow, not saying a word. But as he starts to move towards me on the bed, I tremble, clutching the sheet tighter.

“I’ll ask you again: where did you get a million pounds, Ella?”

He stops right next to the bed, towering above me with that fiery gaze burning into me and my silence. The heat and traitorous lust and need swirls deviously with the fear, fury, and distrust, turning my heart into a battlefield.

Noel sighs heavily.

“The silent treatment? Are you fourteen?”

I sneer at him.

“If I was fourteen, Noel, I’d just fucking stab you ag—”
