“I made the pasta salad,” she said, barely holding in a sob. “I just really wanted it even though we were supposed to make appetizers. I thought it would be okay.”

“What? Of course, it’s okay,” I said, rushing to reassure her. “You can make whatever you’re in the mood for.”

When she started to cry, Mellie jumped into action and pulled her in for a hug.

“What is going on, Raquel?” Layla asked, clearly worried about her normally tough best friend. “You’ve been weird for the past couple days.”

It took a moment for Raquel to calm down, but when she finally took a deep breath and stepped away from Mellie’s embrace, she shocked the shit out of us all.

“I think I’m pregnant.”

There were audible gasps followed by dead silence.

Of course, Grace was the first one to speak.

“I always thought if any of us were going to get accidentally knocked up, it would be me.”

“Grace, that’s not nice,” Mellie scolded, but I was barely holding in a giggle.

“I always thought the same thing,” Kenny agreed. “But I’m not sure how you can think you’re pregnant. You either are or you aren’t.”

“Did you take a test?” Layla asked.

“Yes. I took one. But it’s really early, so I’m hoping it’s wrong,” Raquel replied, still sniffling.

We all looked at each other and had the same thought.

“Let’s load up some plates and stock up on drinks, and then get comfortable in the living room,” Grace suggested. “I think it’s going to be a long night.”

The End
